Man, 92, arrested over murder and rape of woman in Bristol in 1967
A 92-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and rape following the death of a woman in Bristol in 1967, Avon and Somerset Police has said.
The man is from Ipswich, Suffolk, and his arrest follows a forensic review of the case which began last year, police said.
The victim, Louisa Dunne, who was 75, was found dead in her home in Easton in June 1967 by a neighbour.
She had been strangled and raped.
“This is an extremely significant moment in an appalling and distressing case which has remained unsolved for almost six decades,” Detective Inspector Dave Marchant said.
Suffolk Police supported the investigation and there will be further police activity in the Ipswich area moving forward, DI Marchant added.
He continued: “We recognise this will also come as a shock to the community in Easton.
“While this tragic incident happened a long time ago, there will be people who remember what happened and may have had a connection with Louisa through family or friends.
“The Neighbourhood Policing Team are carrying out patrols of the area, so please speak to an officer if you have any worries or concerns.”

Ms Dunne’s next of kin have been contacted by police and DI Marchant said he hoped the investigation could bring them “the answers they’ve waited a lifetime for.”
