This is the best time to witness the fourth and final supermoon of 2024
Skygazers in the UK who were stunned by the ‘largest and brightest’ supermoon of the year in October will soon be treated to another one.
This weekend, the ‘Beaver Supermoon’ will light up skies – the last supermoon we’ll see until March of next year.
On Friday, be sure to take a look at the sky to catch a glimpse of one of the brightest moons this year.
What is a supermoon and full moon?
The term supermoon was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 as either a new or full moon that occurs when the moon is within 90% of its closest approach to Earth.
A full moon is simply when the entire moon is illuminated by the sun, making it appear like it’s glowing to us.
When does November’s full moon reach peak illumination in the UK?
The moon will be its brightest on Friday, November 15, at exactly 9.28pm – so stay up and keep your eyes open to see the moon in all of its glory.
You’ll be able to enjoy the glow for a minute or two before the moon begins dimming slightly in illumination.
The moon will become full at 4.28pm on Friday, but not begin ‘glowing’ until after sundown (obviously).
When will the next full moon and supermoon be?
The next full moon will fall on December 15, reaching its peak at 4.02am. This moon is referred to as the ‘Cold Moon’.
The next supermoon won’t be for a while, though. It returns to our skies on March 29, 2025. At least it’ll be warmer!
