Scarlet Witch’s MCU Return Chances In Agatha All Along Gets Intriguing Response From Showrunner: “There’s More Left To Go”

Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer recently commented on the potential for Wanda Maximoff to show up on the series. After it was confirmed that Teen is in fact her son, Billy Maximoff, A.K.A. Wiccan, it is seeming more and more inevitable that the Scarlet Witch may return to the MCU. In an interview with Deadline, Schaeffer attributed the fan push for Wanda to appear to Elizabeth Olsen’s performance, stating: “It’s so wonderful that everyone loves her as much as they do. I mean, I feel that way about her, and so the clamoring for her is really beautiful.

Schaeffer also created WandaVision, which was the first time that Olsen’s Wanda was treated as the lead in an MCU project. She had already been a fan-favorite for years before, but the intriguing and tragic story Schaeffer crafted helped cement a legion of Scarlet Witch enthusiasts. Even so, the writer attributes the series’ success to Olsen, who she says is “so extraordinary and so candescent.”

As far as whether Wanda will be in Agatha All Along, Schaeffer was decidedly more cryptic, stating that “our players are on the board, and we are on a journey about these folks.” She doubled down that this show is “Agatha’s Story.” However, she also teased that Agatha All Along is “also very much Billy’s story” and that “there’s more left to go.

While Wanda is not confirmed to return in Agatha All Along or any other MCU projects at this time, Schaeffer’s comments are vague enough to cast doubt. Wanda and Billy’s stories are intrinsically linked as mother and son, so his inclusion in the series would be a natural way to bring Olsen back. She could be properly resurrected, or maybe she could appear in a vision or flashback.

Alternatively, Agatha All Along has already set up a reason for Wanda to no longer be in Billy’s story. The sigil cast on William Kaplan prevented him from being identified by any witch – potentially including his mother. Wanda’s multiversal rampage happened because she wanted her sons back and, tragically, did not know one of them had taken the body of William Kaplan.

As Teen’s true identity has been revealed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Agatha All Along star Joe Locke teases the future of his character.

Now, by the time in which Agatha All Along is set, the Scarlet Witch is dead, presumably without ever knowing, unless the series pulls a bait-and-switch. Schaeffer’s noncommittal comments could mean there’s a Wanda-related reveal in the show’s future, or her insistence that the series belongs to Agatha could be entirely accurate.

Agatha All Along has crafted such a colorful cast of characters, and Wiccan is a standout addition. Expanding his story by including the Scarlet Witch would be epic, but he’s interesting enough on his own. If Schaeffer is hiding a Wanda appearance, it would be a welcome surprise.

However, Billy’s journey to find his brother Tommy is compelling and can sustain a character arc. Likewise, his dynamic with Agatha is interesting and worth tuning in to even without Wanda. Schaeffer did also imply that we have met all of the main players in this story, further casting doubt on whether we will see the Scarlet Witch. Either way, with the season winding down, Agatha All Along promises to be a run ride down the Witches’ Road.
