NCAAF betting: What to look for in CFB Week 6

It may seem like Week 5 of college football just wrapped up, but there is more action to be had as Week 6 gets ready to get underway.

Who will win the national title rematch? Who is the next threat to shake up the AP power ranking? Heck, who should you be backing during all of this chaos?

Here’s what to look for in Week 6.

How the majority thinks the Washington-Michigan game will end

The Wolverines have the better record at 4-1 over all and 2-0 in conference play, and have moved up to No. 10 in the AP poll despite each of their last two games have been nail-biters that ended 27-24. The Huskies arguably have a better quarterback in Will Rogers, although his  306-yard two-touchdown performance in Week 5 wasn’t enough to get a win against Rutgers.

So how does that inform this week’s wagers? It looks like many bettors have already made up their minds.

Sports Illustrated reports that 62% of bets at FanDuel are backing the Wolverines, who are 2.5-point underdogs in the latest odds.

Keep in mind before you rush to place the same bet, though: Michigan is 1-4-0 against the spread this season, per Covers.

Biggest matchup of the week?

There is a general feeling that Week 6 is more mellow after the Alabama-Georgia game, but there is still Power Five action afoot this weekend.

With that in mind, the Associated Press is zeroing in on the SEC battle between No. 9 Missouri and No. 25 Texas A&M.

Both teams have won four straight games and are undefeated in conference play this season — so far. The Tigers won their last two games by a combined 11 points after erasing a massive deficit against Boston College and going to overtime against Vanderbilt, but also have the advantage of being refreshed after their bye week.

Meanwhile, the Aggies are 2.5-point favorites at DraftKings despite not knowing who will start under center.

“Marcel Reed has started the last three games at quarterback in place of the injured Connor Weigman. A&M coach Mike Elko said Weigman would be a game-time decision,” the AP said. “Whoever starts, he’ll be going against the toughest defense the Aggies have faced.”

Speaking of defense…

Threat to climb the SEC hierarchy

Keep an eye on undefeated Tennessee.

The No. 4 Vols are 13.5-point favorites against the Arkansas Razorbacks and have the top-ranked defense in the NCAA. Additionally, Saturday’s game marks the first in a three-game run against in-conference competition, which caps off with a home game on Oct. 19 against No. 1 Alabama.

Tennessee is also 4-0-0 ATS this season, if you needed extra motivation to back them with your bets in Week 6.

New dark horse in the Heisman race

If you haven’t placed your Heisman bets yet and are looking for someone to compete with Jalen Milroe for favoritism, check out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

Jeanty has 845 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns on 82 carries — an average of 10.3 yards a pop — in four games,” the NCAA website said. “That puts the Boise State superstar on pace for 2,535 rushing yards and 39 rushing touchdowns on the season. That’s close to Barry Sanders’ 1988 Heisman-winning season when he set FBS records with 2,628 rushing yards and beyond his 37 touchdowns.”

Jeanty is listed at 10-1 odds at DK — the fourth-shorest — to win the award.
