Fantasy fallers: Drop these three pass-catchers for Week 5

With four weeks of NFL action in the books it’s time to take stock of our fantasy rosters. While some players continue to exceed expectations, others have fallen short. Like these three…

Mark Andrews (TE) Baltimore Ravens

Andrews led all tight ends with 107 catches for 1,361 yards and over 300 fantasy points in 2021 but his numbers have gone down ever since. He missed seven games with an assortment of injuries in 2023 but the only thing he’s missed lately is the stat sheet.

Per Pro Football Focus, Andrews ran six routes in Week 3 and 10 routes in Week 4 with two targets and no receptions in just 18 passing snaps. After four games, Andrews has six catches for 65 yards and 12.5 fantasy points.

For what it’s worth, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh believes the three-time Pro Bowler will bounce back, telling team reporters, “”Mark Andrews is going to definitely have big games here catching the ball.”

We’ll believe it when we see it, coach. If you can find someone that shares Harbaugh’s optimism, by all means trade him away.

Kyle Pitts (TE) Atlanta Falcons

Falcons fans were full of optimism when the team replaced head coach Arthur Smith with Raheem Morris in the offseason. But when it comes to Pitts’ production, fantasy managers are running out of patience.

Pitts hit the ground running with 1,026 yards as a rookie in 2021 but scored only one touchdown. He combined for 1,023 yards and five scores over the next two seasons but 2024 was supposed to be Pitts’ breakout year.

So far, the fourth-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has just eight catches for 105 yards, one touchdown and 24.5 fantasy points. He had no catches on three targets in the team’s 26-24 win over the Saints last week.

This Thursday, he’ll face an Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that held Philadelphia to one passing touchdown in a 33-16 victory in Week 4. With seven touchdowns in 48 career games, it could be time to pull the plug on Atlanta’s underperforming tight end.

Garret Wilson (WR) New York Jets

The same can be said for New York’s ultra-talented but ineffective wide receiver. After starting his career with a pair of 1,000-yard seasons, Wilson seemed poised for greatness with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball.

Not so. After four games, Wilson has 20 catches for 191 yards, one touchdown and 43.6 fantasy points. He had five catches for 41 yards in the team’s 10-9 loss to the Broncos on Sunday and criticized the team’s offense on ESPN’s “Bart and Hahn” show a few days later.

“I know, personally, my route tree hasn’t been what it has been the last two years as far as the stuff I’ve been running,” Wilson said. “I don’t think we do a lot of different stuff, to be honest. I watch football on Sundays and I see a lot of teams mix it up and stuff like that. I don’t think we do that.

The Jets travel to London to face the Vikings this week. Minnesota currently allows the third-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers (44.18), but until the former first round pick stops pointing fingers and starts finding the end zone, you may want to see what he’s worth on the trade market.
