US ultrarunner Camille Herron, husband accused of editing competitors’ Wikipedia pages to remove accomplishments; loses Lululemon sponsorship

An American record-setting runner who went the extra mile to look better than other runners online was dropped from her partnership with Lululemon.

Ultrarunner Camille Herron, 42, along with her husband and coach Conor Holt are accused of removing and downplaying accomplishments from her competition’s Wikipedia pages while amplifying her own, according to Canadian Running Magazine.

The couple allegedly removed statements such as “widely regarded as one of the best trail runners ever” from ultrarunners Kilian Jornet and Courtney Dauwalter’s Wikipedia pages while writing that Herron was ” “widely regarded as one of the greatest ultramarathon runners of all time,” the magazine reported.

Herron and Holt allegedly started using the username “Rundbowie” in February 2024 after their old username “Temporun73” was reportedly banned for violating Wikipedia’s conflict of interest policies. On their first account, the platform warned them to stop making overly self-promotional statements and using words like “legendary” and “prestigious,” according to reporting from the website OutsideOnline.

Herron’s online activity targeting runners reportedly goes back to 2017, with her making changes to pages of Boston Marathon champion Des Linden and Greek ultrarunner Yiannis Kouros.

Herron reportedly denied the accusations on the social media platform X before deleting the post even though the edits were reportedly traced back to her email and Holt’s IP address.

He has since owned up to the scandal, claiming that Camille is innocent.

“Camille had nothing to do with this,” Holt said in a statement, according to Run Ultra. “I’m 100 percent responsible and apologize [to] any athletes affected by this and the wrong I did.”

He claimed that the “Temporun73” account was created in 2016 and alleged that “cyber bullies” had been targeting Camille’s page and edited out “significant parts of Camille’s life and biographical details.”

“I was going off what other athletes had on their pages using the username Rundbowie and copying/pasting this info,” Holt said.

I was only trying to protect Camille from the constant bullying, harassment and accusations she has endured in her running career, which has severely impacted her mental health. So much to the point that she has sought professional mental health help. 

When Lululemon officials got word, they stomped on their partnership with Herron – which only started in February 2023.

“We are committed to upholding equitable competition in sport for all and intentionally partner with ambassadors who embody these same values. After careful consideration and conversation, we have decided to end our ambassador partnership with Camille. We want to acknowledge Camille’s achievements during our partnership and wish her well in her future endeavors,” the popular athleisure brand wrote in a statement to Canadian Running Magazine.

The couple is accused of having a history of targeting other athletes.

“Unfortunately, the Wikipedia story is part of a pattern of interference. This couple has a history of trying to disrupt athletes, their reputations, races, and performances by citing World Athletics rules that do not apply to ultrarunning and multi-day running,” said The Global Organization of Multi-day Marathoners president Trishul Cherns.

Herron is a decorated athlete with 12 ultramarathon world records. In April 2022, she became the youngest woman to reach 100,000 lifetime running miles.

In her early days, she felt like an outsider telling “The Right Room” podcast that she was “badly bullied” during her first year of Ultrarunning but that eventually changed.
