Private Eye editor Ian Hislop’s taxi was reportedly targeted targeted by a gunman yesterday after he was shot at while riding a black cab through Soho.

The taxi driver told police his cab had stopped due to traffic at around 10am in central London on Tuesday when his rear window was struck by what appears to be a bullet.

Both Hislop and the taxi driver escaped without injury, according to reports. The incident took place near a junction on Oxford Street, close to where Private Eye’s offices are located.

Police are currently keeping an open mind towards any possible motive behind the shooting, and officers are examining CCTV and searching the nearby area for clues to the gunman’s identity.

A Met spokesperson said: ‘Police were called at 10.10am on Tuesday, 1 October to a report of a firearms discharge on Dean Street, Westminster.

‘The driver of a London black taxi reported he was stationary in traffic when a shot was fired towards his vehicle, striking the window. There were no injuries. An investigation has been launched.’
