By the end of the episode, it is revealed that the real Planet Express crew is actually inside the ghost ship, with the characters we had been following actually being multiversal counterparts.

Eventually, Fry begins to have visions of older versions of himself and Leela living a happy life together, with these visions being clips from the episode “Meanwhile.” Although Fry doesn’t have the proper context for them, he is particularly obsessed with these memories. At the end of the episode, he draws a picture of him and Leela as a loving old couple, attempting to show Leela what he has been seeing.
