Stranger rips baby from mum’s arms and runs down train in ‘abduction’ attempt

Police have launched an urgent CCTV appeal after a man snatched a baby from its mother at Worksop station.

British Transport Police are seeking a man captured in a CCTV image wearing a red shirt over the terrifying incident, which took place at approximately 7.30pm on Saturday 17 August. The unknown individual grabbed the child and sprinted down the carriage, prompting a family member to chase him down and retrieve the infant before he left the train at Barnsley.

The British Transport Police urged the public to join the search, releasing a statement: “British Transport Police are today issuing an image following an attempted child abduction on a train. The incident happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday 17 August when a mother carrying her baby was preparing to leave the service at Worksop.”

“A stranger grabbed the baby from the mother’s arms and took off down the carriage with her. A relative managed to grab the baby back. The man left the service at Barnsley.

Officers believe the man in the image may have information that could help their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference number 228 of 18 August.”, reports the Mirror.
