National Express passengers spot ‘cockroaches all over back seat’ of bus

National Express has issued an apology after passengers were left aghast at the sight of ‘cockroaches all over the back seat’ on a city bus. The unsettling critters, complete with lengthy antennae, were caught on camera aboard the number 11 service known to locals as the Birmingham Outer Circle route.

The disturbing video was submitted to the ‘Brumz Updates’ Facebook page and quickly circulated across social media platforms. The accompanying caption stated: “Cockroaches on the 11 bus this morning, all over the back seat.”

In response to the incident, National Express assured BirminghamLive that their buses undergo nightly inspections and cleaning after services conclude. They also highlighted that “regular deep cleaning” is part of their maintenance routine but extended apologies for what they described as a “rare” occurrence.

The footage sparked a wave of reactions from Facebook users. Nicola Cardall expressed her dismay, commenting: “Please tell me that isn’t real. I hate cockroaches and get the 11 four times daily.”

Jo Lea shared her frustration, noting: “I’ve complained many times about the buses being filthy but never had a response”

Meanwhile, Sue Hall expressed relief at not being a bus user, reports Birmingham Live.

Adding a bit of humour to the situation, Andrew Boxall quipped: “Hope it’s got a daysaver if it’s going to be on there all day.”

Richard Farrell pointed out a potential cause for the infestation, saying: “If people didn’t leave their rubbish all over the bus, they wouldn’t be on them. It’s disgusting the state of some of the buses.”

A representative for National Express expressed their regret, stating: “We sincerely apologise to our customers for the inconvenience. Our buses are inspected and cleaned every night at the end of service and we conduct regular deep cleaning. Reports such as these are extremely rare and we’re committed to providing a safe and clean environment for our passengers and colleagues.”
