WWE NXT Vengeance Day 2023 Preview: Full Card, Match Predictions & More

WWE NXT Vengeance Day 2023 is coming up this Saturday and before the event takes place, let’s run down everything you need to know about the upcoming pay-per-view.

Who is scheduled for the card? How interesting does the show seem? What’s going to happen with all the matches?

Here is a full preview of WWE NXT Vengeance Day 2023.

PPV EVENT INFORMATION

Date: Saturday, February 4, 2023

Start Time: 7 p.m. ET (pre-show), 8 p.m. ET (main show)

Location: Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina

MATCH CARD, PREDICTIONS & HEAT INDEX ANTICIPATION LEVELS

(as currently advertised; card is always subject to change)

Temperature Scale = Scorching > Hot > Lukewarm > Temperate > Chilly > Cold > Freezing

Heat Index is my assessment of how interesting the segment is, including how excited I am for the match and how intriguing the feud has been. The hotter, the better. Scorching translates to not being able to wait to see it, while Freezing means I couldn’t possibly care less and think it will be awful.

NXT CHAMPIONSHIP STEEL CAGE MATCH:
Bron Breakker (c) vs. Grayson Waller

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Bron Breakker wins.

Thoughts: Breakker retains, for sure. I was on the fence about it until they teased Hayes potentially having a title shot if he beats Crews. Now, I’m convinced Waller is going up to the main roster before or shortly after WrestleMania and this is his swan song, in a sense. I’m not sure why they decided to go with a steel cage match here and the whole rope breaking angle. But hey, whatever. Fans in Charlotte will probably like that.

NXT WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLE THREAT MATCH:
Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Gigi Dolin vs. Jacy Jayne

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: Roxanne Perez wins.

Thoughts: We know how this story is going to play out, don’t we? All the teases that Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne aren’t getting along while they claim they are will mean both are true. They’ll double-team Perez for a bit until one of them goes for a pinfall. The other one will pull that person off, angry that they wanted to win the title. This will result in a communications breakdown. Dolin and Jayne will start fighting each other and Perez will take advantage of that to retain. Since I’ve seen these three hover each other for a while, I’m not exactly thrilled to be continuing the same story. I would have preferred someone new getting a title shot.

NXT NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Wes Lee (c) vs. Dijak

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Wes Lee wins.

Thoughts: I want Dijak to win this title so bad, but I can’t let that blind me to how I don’t expect that to happen. Wes Lee is probably dropping the title to Tony D’Angelo or someone else. Dijak will lose so much momentum if he just fails to win this, but I don’t think he’s the priority for WWE right now and they figure he’ll be fine.

NXT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP FATAL 4-WAY MATCH:
The New Day (c) vs. Chase University vs. Gallus vs. Pretty Deadly

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: The New Day wins.

Thoughts: I wish I could be Hot or Scorching on this, particularly since I like all four tag teams. However, I can’t help but to feel like this was a bit thrown together haphazardly. Why would The New Day want to keep adding more tag teams to their defense? Strange. Part of me thinks Gallus or Pretty Deadly winning is straightforward. Another part of me that is bigger than that thinks Indus Sher will beat The New Day at Stand & Deliver.

2-OUT-OF-3 FALLS MATCH:
Apollo Crews vs. Carmelo Hayes

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Carmelo Hayes wins.

Thoughts: This match doesn’t officially have championship implications, but I just cannot imagine any scenario other than Hayes winning this and using that to go on to challenge Breakker at Stand & Deliver. It HAS to be that, right? Crews gets a legitimate pin. Hayes gets a legitimate or slightly off pin, as well as one where Trick Williams interferes. Having one dodgy fall puts him in doubt to protect Crews, but he still goes in the record books as the winner.

NXT WOMEN’S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Katana Chance and Kayden Carter (c) vs. Fallon Henley and Kiana James

Heat Index = Chilly
Prediction: Katana Chance and Kayden Carter win.

Thoughts: Henley and James work together until they don’t. Chance and Carter retain. They’re dropping those belts to Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre, not James and Henley. I’m expecting the match to be fine, but something that would be skippable on a regular episode of NXT. By no means will this be on the list of classic tag team matches from the old NXT TakeOver events or anything.

OVERALL PPV:
How excited am I for the event as a whole?

Heat Index = Lukewarm

Thoughts: It’ll be a solid night’s worth of action, but nothing all that memorable. As it won’t be 9 hours long like most AEW events, it’ll be an easier show to digest and take it as it is. One thumb up, most likely, rather than two.
