The Watch List takes a look at what matches you should be watching while you’re at home and they come recommended by your favorite professional wrestling stars.
WrestleZone recently spoke with Alexander Wolfe, who picked a few bouts from his run with Sanity and Imperium as stand-out matches he had with WWE.
“With Sanity, for sure, the War Games match because we had the chance to change up the rhythm with bringing the weapons into the match and be creative with that. Also, Sanity-wise,” he noted, “I would say the match where Sanity won the [NXT] Tag Team titles because that was, for me, the first time I had the chance to show a bit of my ability.
“For in-ring work, I had two matches in NXT UK against Ilya Dragunov. One was a simple wrestling match and is so far my favorite wrestling match I had under the WWE umbrella. Not only is Dragunov a great opponent; he’s a great wrestler, great performer,” he explained, “but also, he was also the guy that [made you feel like] we could work every day together even without calling [the match in the ring].”
Wolfe, who is now going by the name “Axel Tischer” on the independent scene, went on to explain that although he appreciates the work he did in Sanity, he but enjoyed the work he did with Imperium a bit more. During the interview, he said that he hopes to get back to the “wrestling” side of his work rather than base it on entertainment, and talked about the differences in his work while he was with the company.
“The match afterward was a no-disqualification match where we used some foreign objects, which one of my favorites as well, but mostly the time I had when I competed in NXT UK because that was more for me what I loved to do, more of the ‘wrestling’ part of it. Sanity was good, but in Sanity, sometimes it was more of a sacrifice of the art of wrestling more towards the entertainment aspect of it, the storyline aspect of it. A lot of the time, for example, I remember a tag team match between Sanity (myself and Killian Dain) against the Bollywood Boyz and I have not done anything [in the match]. It was just to show off Killian Dain and how strong he is, so a lot of empty stuff I had made with Sanity, even though it was a great time. But when I think about my stuff and my ability, I would go to the NXT UK matches where I had the chance to work with those talents over there.”
Axel Tischer returns to the ring at the wXw Germany 20th anniversary show on August 7; you can see a few matches from his career below.
