Who Is Jade Cargill? And What Can She Offer AEW?

Good day wrestling fans! Today, we’ll be talking about the latest addition to AEW’s roster, Jade Cargill.

On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Jade Cargill interrupted Cody Rhodes’ promo. She was essentially given the opportunity on the mic to run him down, hit on him, provoke Brandi, then add insult to injury by slapping her backside. And in the middle of this altercation, a threat from Shaquille O’Neal was ushered. Exuding vast amounts of confidence, Jade had no issues with any of this, acting like there was no pressure whatsoever. And first impressions are often crucial, so it’s safe to say that AEW set out what they wanted to accomplish.

Who Is She?

The questions fans will be ask is, who is Jade Cargill? Where did she come from? And what makes her so special to be handed this opportunity?

Cargill is a 28-year-old fitness model from Vero Beach, Florida, and is of Jamaican heritage. She has one daughter to MLB second baseman Brandon Phillips. Since starting her Instagram account in 2013, she has accrued almost 400,000 followers on her page. She has gained these followers because of her toned and muscular physique showcased through regular modeling shots. Outside of this, she works as an online fitness coach, offering programs at prices ranged between $16-40. I take this excerpt from her website:

After a successful athletic career, Jade Cargill is a business owner, trainer and active mother She is a relentless, driven, focused woman that holds many credentials, She also has a certified master’s in child psychology, She believes her job is to motivate, support and guide her clients into that better version of themselves-mentally and physically. All in good time. “You are not a product of your circumstances, you are a product of your decisions”. Are you ready?!

Athletic Credentials & Training

In her youth, she excelled at basketball and helped her two high schools to district championships. You can find her records at the link here: JU Dolphins — At Jacksonville University, she graduated with a social science degree and master’s in child psychology.

In April 2019, WWE announced they were having tryouts. In a list posted on their website, they included Jade Cargill’s name along with many others, including AEW star Ivelisse Velez, former WWE talent Lance Anoa’i and more. It’s unknown when Jade officially began her wrestling training, but it is known that she started in AR Fox’s WWA4 Academy. From there, she moved on to Heath Slater’s Face 2 Face Wrestling and QT Marshall’s Nightmare Factory.

Within a year and a half, Cargill went from trying out with WWE to debuting for AEW on Dynamite. With her natural athleticism, education and entrepreneurial skills, we can assume she quickly picked up the art of professional wrestling. And talking is her strong suit, considering she hosts online fitness programs and has advertised them herself.

With Face 2 Face Wrestling, WWE Hall Of Famer Teddy Long gave her some major props for excelling in training. She tells everyone they should be afraid, because one day Jade Cargill will be a huge star: Teddy Long & Jade Cargill

The following video posted last month, nicely clips many of her workouts together in one neat package. If you’re interested to know how much training she’s had, this will give you a good idea.

What Can She Offer?

What can she offer AEW? Fans have been saying that AEW’s women’s division needs work, because they haven’t got many stars. Hikaru Shida, Britt Baker, Riho and Nyla Rose are probably the only four who have had decent exposure since its formation. With Jade Cargill, she brings the look and the talk, but can she bring it in the ring too? This remains to be seen, but the important thing is to establish her character early. If Shaq is getting involved, I can see a possible tag team match with Cody & Brandi facing off against him and Jade.

It would be such a high-profile match for someone with so little experience, but AEW’s women’s division needs another key player. This could be a crucial step on the way to building a division which can sustain itself (without having to look elsewhere for NWA & indie talent) in 2021 and beyond. Let’s wait and see.
