‘Moechella’ Washington, D.C. Juneteenth shooting: 1 dead, 3 injured

A 15-year-old was killed and three people, including a police officer, were shot Sunday afternoon amid a Washington, D.C. street event that police said was “unpermitted.”

Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee told reporters Sunday night that several hundred people gathered for the Juneteenth advocacy and music festival called “Moechella,” repeatedly referring to it as an “unpermitted event.”

Contee said police moved to break up the event after a fight and another incident led to several people being trampled and injured. A firearm was recovered after the second incident.

Later, shots were fired among the crowd, police said.

Four people were shot, including a police officer and a juvenile. Three adult victims, including the policeman, were in local hospitals recovering, and a 15-year-old boy died, Contee said.
