Massachusetts bus driver allegedly kidnapped, sexually assaulted passenger

A bus driver in Massachusetts has been charged with kidnapping and assaulting a female rider in a “deeply disturbing” attack, prosecutors said.

Ali Ennab, a 45-year-old contract driver for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of kidnapping, assault to rape, indecent assault and battery after a woman reported being attacked during a ride late Saturday, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors allege the victim, who does not speak English, missed her stop and asked Ennab to drive her back to Boston’s Orient Heights section at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

“Instead, he stopped the bus at a stop near the beach in Winthrop, and the victim began to feel nervous because she was the only passenger,” prosecutors said in a statement.

Ennab, an MBTA contract driver employed by Paul Revere Transportation LLC, then allegedly turned the bus off and got up to sit next to the woman before putting his arm around her and kissing her cheek.

Ennab also promised the woman he could get her a green card, prompting her to say she had a husband and didn’t need one, prosecutors said.

The woman then asked to be let off the bus again, which Ennab allegedly refused, before he asked for her phone number.

Prosecutors said the victim then called Ennab from her phone so his number would be stored in case something happened to her. He then allegedly started eating his dinner while refusing to let the woman get off the bus.

Ennab allegedly lunged at the woman after he finished eating and started the bus, ripping off her mask and kissing her face.

“He groped her body and put his hand down her pants,” prosecutors said in a statement. “She begged him to stop and he continued assaulting her.”

The woman managed to record audio of the alleged assault as she begged in Spanish for Ennab to let her go, but he responded, “Me, I’m boyfriend for you, it’s OK,” prosecutors said.

The frightening alleged attack only ended as another woman walked near the bus, apparently prompting Ennab to open the door, prosecutors said.

A judge set bail for Ennab, of Revere, at $10,000 during Tuesday’s court appearance. He was also ordered to surrender his passport, to submit to GPS monitoring, home confinement and to stop working as a bus driver at any for-hire transportation company, prosecutors said.

A message seeking comment from Ennab’s attorney was not immediately returned Thursday.

The allegations against Ennab are “abhorrent and intolerable,” MBTA spokeswoman Lisa Battiston told The Post Thursday.

“This individual will no longer contract for the MBTA, and the T is working with the contractor and law enforcement to investigate this matter,” Battiston wrote in an email.

Ennab was arrested Monday, the Boston Globe reported.

He has been also been suspended from Paul Revere Transportation, which employed him as a contract driver for MBTA.

“Paul Revere was shaken to learn about the allegations against an on-duty operator that were reported on Saturday, April 24,” company officials said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the alleged victim in this matter.”

Sources close to the matter said Ennab was hired by Paul Revere in March 2020 and passed a criminal background check before being furloughed due to the coronavirus pandemic. He returned to service in October on an MBTA contract.
