Anti-Israel student and teacher protesters at NYC universities plan campus walkouts on Oct. 7 anniversary
Students and professors at several New York City universities are expected to stage walkouts Monday in a widespread protest of Israel on the anniversary of Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack on the Jewish state, according to reports.
Walkouts are expected to begin around 11:30 a.m. Monday at Columbia University, with law enforcement sources telling The Post that police and campus security are aware and preparing to monitor the situation.
Jewish students are planning to respond with their own vigil in remembrance of the roughly 1,200 Israelis killed on Oct 7, 2023.
The walkouts are also expected to happen on at least a dozen college campuses across the city, according to the Daily News.
Columbia became the epicenter of campus protests in the Big Apple during the last school year, with an anti-Israel encampment springing up on the school’s main quad while clashes between demonstrators happened frequently.
The situation became so fraught that security checkpoints were set up around campus resulting in block-long queues for students just trying to get to class.
The anti-Israel groups eventually barricaded themselves inside a school building after their encampment was torn down, and the NYPD was forced to raid the building to clear out the protesters.
