Woman shocked after nasty surprise in £6 box of Heroes chocolates

It is getting close to that time of year again when people start to care a little bit too much about what is in their chocolate boxes.

It got all a little bit too much for one woman from Newcastle who was left furious after her box of £6 Heroes contained an empty Crunchie bits wrapper.

The 26-year-old is not named but she did say: ‘I was really angry when I opened the chocolates to find an empty wrapper.

‘It’s a slap in the face. Christmas chocolates have already been impacted with shrinkflation and cost an arm and a leg so to find a wrapper floating around is disappointing.

‘Cadbury have shrank their selection boxes this year – and now we’re raking through boxes filtering out plastic wrappers.

‘I can’t help but wonder what happened to the chocolate.’

All of this is pretty controversial because Cadbury decreased the size of its Heroes tubs from 600g to 550g last year.

Other cuts by the chocolate company have also been made including shrinking the size of its large selection boxes from 145g to 125g due to rising costs of cocoa and sugar.

It wasn’t long before Celebrations then followed suit, reducing its boxes by 50g to 550g.

A spokesperson for Mondelez International, which own Cadbury, said: ‘We are sorry to hear about this customer’s experience and we understand the disappointment at finding an empty wrapper.

‘We want to assure Heroes fans that they will receive the full indicated weight of chocolate in their boxes as we use specialised equipment to ensure that each box of Cadbury Heroes contains the correct weight of chocolate.

‘Our high-speed wrapping machines usually detect and discard empty wrappers, but on the rare occasion that one may end up in a box, you still have the full amount of chocolate inside as the boxes are packed by weight rather than count.’
