Red Nose Day as part of Comic Relief has been running since its launch in 1988 and is a day designated to raising as much money as possible for charity.

In 2019, the British public raised over £63.4 million to help people in the UK and around the world.

Schools are often heavily involved in fundraising and with children now returning, it’s the perfect time for everyone to get involved this year.

What is the theme of Red Nose Day 2021?

Following a difficult year for everyone in 2020, this year it’s all about raising money through humour.

Comic Relief co-founder, Sir Lenny Henry, said: ‘We all need cheering up, so this year Red Nose Day will be a bit different.

‘Of course we want to raise as much money as possible for people who really need it in the UK and around the world.

‘But we also want to make you smile and bring you some laughter over the coming weeks.’

Alesha Dixon, David Tennant, Davina McCall, Paddy McGuinness and Sir Lenny Henry will all share presenting duties.

Tennant and Sheen will team up for another instalment of their hit comedy series Staged, while Dawn French is set to return as the Vicar of Dibley in a Comic Relief special.

Red Nose Day and Comic Relief are synonymous with people buying and wearing red noses.

This year’s noses are 100% plastic free and plant-based, and there are 10 different ones to choose from.

They all feature different woodland creatures, including a robin and a ladybird, and profits go towards helping charities.

Red noses can be purchased from Sainsbury’s stores, or online at sainsburys.co.uk and on comicrelief.com/shop now.

It’s not just noses that can purchased though as there are plenty of merchandise options available on the online shop.

As well as donating on the phone or online, the organisers at Red Nose Day have put forward several ideas for people to set up their own Covid-safe fundraisers which can be viewed on the Comic Relief website.

Where does my Red Nose Day donation go?

Comic Relief is the perfect way to fundraise for people want to make a difference across a whole range of issues instead of focusing on one cause.

Red Nose Day donations help tackle important issues including homelessness, hunger, domestic abuse and mental health stigma, all of which have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since Comic Relief began, 14.3 million people across the UK and 91.3 million people internationally have benefitted from donations.

You can donate online via donate.comicrelief.com.
