Wandsworth stabbing: 15-year-old boy dies in hospital after street fight

A teenager has died after being stabbed in a street fight involving several people in south London.

He is one of two 15-year-old boys found with knife injuries near Garratt Lane Burial Ground in Wandsworth just before 5pm on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police said.

Officers came across the brawl while on patrol and paramedics attended the scene.

Both stab victims were taken to hospital where one later died. He has not been formally identified but his next of kin has been informed.

The second victim is still in hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening, the force added.

Two males, whose ages have not been disclosed by police, have been arrested and are in custody.

One was arrested on suspicion of GBH – and had suffered a head injury, but did not need hospital treatment.

The other was arrested on suspicion of affray.

A Met Police spokesman said “full inquiries into the circumstances continue” and specialist crime squad detectives have been informed.

An “extensive” crime scene is in place with several roads closed, the force added.

A Section 60 Order, which allows police to stop and search anyone in a specific area without needing to have reasonable grounds, was authorised for the whole of Wandsworth an hour after the incident.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan described the death of the youngster as “appalling and tragic”, and urged people to help the police.

Anyone who has information, video or images that could help with the investigation can call police on 101 with reference CAD 5042/29 Oct.
