Urgent recall of M&S date selection over Hepatitis A fears

Bosses say the action is precautionary but have advised customers not to eat the dates (Picture: Marks and Spencer)

Marks and Spencer has issued an urgent recall of its Stuffed Medjool Date Selection over fears it may be contaminated with Hepatitis A.

The supermarket chain says the action is precautionary but has advised customers not to eat the dates.

Not all batches of the product are dangerous but customers should return it if it has a best before date of 13 July 2021 and is 350 grams in size.

The retailer promised to give every customer a full refund in a statement today.

Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by a virus spread in faeces.

It can be dangerous but most people who get infected usually recover within about two months.

Symptoms to look out for include fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, dark-coloured urine and jaundice (a yellowing of the skin).

In February, contaminated supermarket fried chicken killed at least one person and left hundreds ill with salmonella.
