Around 40,000 users across the globe are thought to have experienced issues. The company tweeted: “Tweets may not be loading for some of you.
“We’re working on fixing a problem and you’ll be back on the timeline soon.”
Twitter users first began reporting issues shortly before 1am today, UK time.
User reports suggest they were unable to log onto the app while others claimed tweets were not loading.
Monitoring website Downdetector.com tracked outages between 12.48am and 2.03am from a series of sources including user-submitted errors – and suggested around 40,000 users were affected.
One North American user wrote at 3.02am: “Twitter is mostly still down for me, so I can’t read anyone’s tweets, but I assume you’re saying nice things about me.”
Another Canadian user wrote: “If I may, I will add to the list of current issues: not being able to tweet, retrieve, load tweets, bookmarks, or even log in now.
“It was working perfectly earlier today.”
One Korean user wrote: “Some people can’t log back onto the Twitter app either, it keeps saying error.”
While the issue is mostly cleared up in the UK, Downdetector is still reporting issues in other countries.
They last observed an increase in issues in Japan and Malaysia.
