The UK town in huge city getting £163m revamp as part of 10-year masterplan

A town centre in Merseyside will undergo a multi-million-pound transformation as part of a 10-year redevelopment plan.

Huyton town centre is set for a dramatic £163 million transformation, bringing new homes, office spaces, and leisure facilities in one of the region’s largest investments.

The project, led by Knowsley Council, aims to attract investment, create jobs, and revitalise Huyton’s economy while leveraging its 30-minute proximity to Liverpool to become a key destination for businesses, visitors, and residents.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: “We’ve shown in Kirkby and Prescot what we can achieve when we work together—and now it’s Huyton’s turn.

Knowsley Council has committed £3.6m to move the plans forward, with £2m already secured from Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

The council stated the project will create 1,700 jobs and generate up to £50m in additional spending for the economy.

The authority plans to demolish outdated 1970s council buildings, replacing them with a vibrant mix of offices, homes, a hotel, and community facilities.

Key elements of the first phase include 72 new apartments, a hotel, and commercial spaces aimed at boosting economic activity in the town.

The plans also include a village green and the relocation of a war memorial.

Knowsley Council mentioned that future phases may feature more office space or the addition of up to 300 homes.

The proposals will progress to the planning stage, with further details to be provided soon.
