Sadiq Khan’s TfL humiliation after Queen spelt wrong in London bus stop blunder

Sadiq Khan has been left red faced after a major TfL blunder that has been branded as “embarrassing” and “ridiculous”.

The London Bus sign for the 380 and 486 buses in Charlton, south east London should say ‘Queen Elizabeth Hospital’ but it has instead spelt the title ‘Qween’ on both sides.

St Luke’s Church bus stop is a request stop for buses heading towards Woolwich and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The bus stop is near the historical landmark Charlton House and the red-brick St Luke’s Church, which dates back to the 11th century.

Royal expert Angela Levin took to X to vent her frustration at the shocking error.

Levin said: “This bus stop sign shows what it happening to us. It would have had to go through so many checks you would think someone would have known how to spell Queen.”

Locals say the badly-spelt sign should be changed out of respect for the late Queen, who died on September 8, 2022 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96.

One annoyed X user said: “That needs to be corrected. It’s embarrassing and ridiculous.”

Another added: “You can’t get good proof readers these days.”

Local Judy Moore said: “I think it’s funny, and I can understand how it happened – but I’m not impressed.

“I think it should be changed, but I do think it’s funny. though.”

TfL chiefs have put their hands up and admitted the mistake and said it would be corrected.

A TfL spokesman said: “We are looking to fix the typing error made on a bus stop in Charlton as soon as possible. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to customers.”

Sadiq Khan has oversight over Transport for London, and as Mayor of London he also sits as chair of the board.
