Murder probe launched as woman’s body found in south London park – roads closed

At 5.23pm on Saturday September 18, Met Police officers were called to Kidbrooke Park Road, Greenwich, London, after a woman’s body was discovered. It is understood the body was found in the park area surrounding the Onespace Community Centre.

A police spokesperson said at the time: “Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform her next of kin.”

At 9.20pm, police confirmed a man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

A man was arrested at an address in Lewisham and is now in custody at a South London police station.

No further information has been given at this stage on either the man arrested or the victim.

A statement from the Met Police issued on Sunday September 19 said: “Police were called at 17:32hrs on Saturday, 18 September after a body was discovered near a community centre in Kidbrooke Park Road, SE3.

“Officers believe they know the identity of the woman, who is aged in her 20s, but they await formal identification and confirmation that next of kin have been informed.

“A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

“At around 21:20hrs on 18 September, police attended an address in Lewisham and arrested a man on suspicion of murder. He has been taken into custody at a south London police station.

“A number of crime scenes are in place and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with information or any witnesses can call police on 101, reference 5747/18. To remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers.”

On Twitter, the Met Police said there are “a number of crime scenes in place and enquiries are ongoing”.

The A2213 Kidbrooke Park Road is closed in both directions, between Weigall Road and Tudway Road, as part of the investigation. 

Bus routes 178, 335 and B16 being diverted.
