A mum-of-two says she fears for her children’s health after trying to get the damp removed from their flat for nearly five years.
Joanne Padgett, 28, from Nottingham, says there is damp in the bedroom her two daughters once shared as well as the bathroom and kitchen.
She told NottinghamshireLive : “I moved in five years ago and after a year of living here the damp started. It’s been ongoing since then.
“I’ve tried all sorts to clean it but it doesn’t come off. The problem has gotten worse, it is really bad.”
Joanne says she now has to share a bed with four-year-old daughter Shakia, and 22-month-old Shania due to the damp in their bedroom.
She has been in contact with Jigsaw Homes, the providers of the house, but says they have refused to carry out vital repairs.
She continued: “I’ve been in contact [with the providers] since 2016 and the problem has only gotten worse.
“An inspector came out to the house and said he wanted to change all the walls, toilet and sink.
“I called up about the inspection, and they said they would only do one wall.”
Jigsaw Homes had been unsupportive whenever she raised her concerns, she claimed.
She said she is pursuing legal action over the matter although a court date has yet been finalised.
Joanne added: “I keep telling the company about my children’s health. They’re not doing anything about it.
“It is not fair and I just want it sorted.”
She told The Sun : “Sometimes the walls are dripping with wet from condensation and are so bad my girls can’t sleep in the bedroom they share.
“They’re always sniffling and I’m worried they’ll get colds and breathing problems if they’re stuck in there all night.”
She added: “My daughters have to share my bed which isn’t ideal and is a bit of a squeeze but is the only solution.”
Mathew George, Operations Director of Asset Management at Jigsaw Homes said: “While we are unable to comment on this individual case, we are committed to maintaining all of our homes to a high standard.
“We make it easy for our customers to contact us to book repair appointments and we carry out periodic property visits to check on the condition of the homes that we let.”
