Harry and Meghan say they want privacy but in recent months have shared a lot of details about their lives royals would normally keep to themselves

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are stuck in a cycle of having to reveal more and more about their private lives to get by, a royal commentator has claimed.

Last year the Duke and Duchess of Sussex handed in their notices as full time members of The Firm.

The 36-year-old prince and his 39-year-old former actress wife decided they’d go it alone on the other side of the Pond.

After cutting themselves off from most of their former streams of royal income, aside from Harry’s sizeable nest egg, they’ve turned to the world of entertainment.

As well as a deal with Netflix, the couple have launched a podcast and Meghan has written a children’s book.

Royal commentator Emily Andrews has suggested that the Duke and Duchess have had to reveal more about themselves to fuel the royal brand in the US than perhaps they would have liked.

In the Channel 5 documentary Meghan at 40: The Climb to Power, she explained that the couple have to “remind” people that they are still royal in a bid to remain relevant.

Ms Andrews said: “Because of the royal brand they can get all these multimillion dollar deals but the problem with that is they have to keep reminding everyone that they’re royal and to do so that involves giving more and more away.

“They have to talk about more private moments.”

Royal historian Ed Owens suggested that Harry and Meghan now have a complicated relationship with the media.

While they have claimed to want privacy while in the UK, he argues, they’ve performed a u-turn now they’re stateside.

“Harry and Meghan have consistently argued that they don’t have sufficient privacy, that they’re lives are difficult and burdensome because of the glare of the media,” he said.

“Then they go to the US and this narrative continues until they suddenly open up about everything by agreeing to an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

“Suddenly this idea of privacy goes completely out of the window.

“Instead they are opening up very publicly knowing that millions of people are going to see and get a glimpse of the inside story behind the separation of Harry and Meghan and the house of Windsor.”

It was announced earlier this month that Harry is releasing a tell-all book next year, which is promises to be an “accurate and wholly truthful” first-hand account of his life.

Stewart Pearce, a close friend of Diana’s who also coached her on her voice and posture, says the Duke is following in what could’ve been his mother’s footsteps.

He has claimed that the late princess would have also written a memoir had her life not been tragically cut short in 1997 aged 36.

He told the Sun : “Diana’s life and purpose were committed to complete transparency, and so I’m sure she would have written her autobiography full of all the many things she learned from her experiences within the Royal Family, and beyond.”

Since moving to the US, Harry and Meghan gave a bombshell interview to Oprah Winfrey, where they made a series of claims about the royal family and said that one of them had expressed concerns about how dark son Archie’s skin would be.

It echoed Diana’s own tell-all chat on the BBC’s Panorama in 1995, where she opened up about the breakdown of her marriage to Prince Charles.

Stewart added that this shows that Harry has inherited his mother’s bravery in wanting to tell his own story.

He explained: “I feel that what Diana was doing was providing transparency about what she was experiencing at that time, which shocked the world, you know there were three people in this marriage, and the changes that she was trying to bring to monarchy, which indeed is something that she really did both when she was alive and also now when she is in death.

“What Harry is doing is going on a stage further and not just revealing what took place, but providing causative information about why treachery took place.”
