Madeleine McCann suspect cleared of rape and sex abuse in separate trial

The man who is suspected of kidnapping Madeleine McCann has been cleared of all charged at a rape trial in Germany.

Convicted paedophile Christian Brueckner, 47, has been on trial in Germany charged with five offences, including three counts of rape, which took place in Portugal near where the three-year-old vanished.

Brueckner has never been charged in connection with Madeleine’s disappearance and denies being involved.

He was formally identified as an official suspect in the McCann case in April 2022.

German police said in June 2020 that Madeleine was assumed dead.
