Holiday hell for Derbyshire family of four stranded in £2000 Ibiza quarantine hotel room

The family have claimed that their holiday to Ibiza has become a disaster after one member tested positive for coronavirus. They have now been forced to pay a £2,000 bill to all stay within a quarantine room in a hotel on the Spanish island. The room consists of a double bed and sofa bed for the children.

Matthew and Vicky Groves and their two sons are from Glossop in Derbyshire and travelled to Ibiza for a holiday on July 7.

But it was not long after arriving at the Sirenis Seaview Village that things began to deteriorate for the holidaying family.

The Derbyshire family described the place they were staying as being “filthy” and they had to contact the TUI about the conditions at the hotel.

Mr Groves went on to send repeated requests to the TUI for a change of venue as the Ibiza resort they had arrived at was “dirty” and he described the food as “awful”.

However, it was when the couple attempted to return to the UK that the true nightmare of the holiday began.

On July 16 the family travelled into the town centre to get their coronavirus tests for their return to the UK.

Mr Gorves’ wife Vicky tested positive for coronavirus meaning the family would be forced to isolate on the island before returning to Manchester.

The couple and their two sons, aged eight and ten, have now been moved to another hotel for the duration of their isolating period.

“When I asked what would happen if I didn’t pay the bill I was told they would chuck us out even though Vicky has Covid and alert the authorities so I’ve had to pay it under duress.”

But the quarantine nightmare could be prolonged if Mr Groves tests positive for coronavirus.

This would be mean that the family would have to isolate all over again.

Mrs Groves said: “This is our first holiday since the pandemic.

“We are both fully vaccinated and Ibiza was on the green list and we booked with TUI so we thought everything would be okay.”
