Corbyn humiliated as former Labour leader savaged by public opinion – worse than Brown

In yet another blow to the former Labour leader, almost half of those asked in a poll believed he would have been a poor Prime Minister to steer the country through the pandemic. In the poll, released by Redfield & Wilton Strategies, 48 percent believed the former Labour leader would do a worse job than Mr Johnson. In contrast, just 21 believed the MP for Islington North would do a better job than the Prime Minister.

Mr Corbyn scored a lower approval rating than his two predecessors.

Tony Blair received the highest of all the political figures in the poll with 27 percent, while Gordon Brown received a rating of 23 percent.

Even current and under fire Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer registered a 26 percent – the second-highest on the list.

The two former and current Labour leaders all registered 33 percent in terms of doing a worse job.

In terms of Tory leader, Theresa May and David Cameron both scored 22 and 21 percent respectively as better leaders than the current Prime Minister.

Current Chancellor Rishi Sunak recorded a 24 percent approval rating while only 19 percent believed he would do a worse job.

Only Jeremy Hunt, former health secretary received a lower approval rating than Mr Corbyn.

The poll results were published on social media by former head of policy for Ed Balls, Karim Plant.

That represents a 120,554 drop from the previous week and a 37.1 percent fall.

However, hospitalisations have continued to rise with 932 recorded across the country, while this week has ended with 1,097 more admittances.

A further 85 deaths were reported while 499 were recorded over the last week.

As the UK has only recently lifted Covid restrictions, Mr Johnson said the UK must be careful with its approach going forward.

He said: “Step four of the opening-up only took place a few days ago.

“People have got to remain very cautious and that remains the approach of the Government.”

This poll was conducted between July 21-22 and asked 1,500 people.
