Body camera footage shows the dramatic chase and arrest of a man thought to have been involved in a burglary.

The man scrambled through bushes and over a fence in the early hours of yesterday morning – but was quickly caught and arrested in a field.

Officers can be heard saying, ‘There’s a runner,’ as they search for the suspect, before shouting, ‘We’ve got him,’ as he is wrestled to the ground.

It is thought the suspect was a member of a group who posed as police officers to get into a house in Bordesley, near Birmingham, about an hour beforehand.

A man and woman were handcuffed by three people – who claimed they were carrying out intelligence checks – and they raided the house for jewellery, watches and cash.

The group fled from the scene in Hawthorn Close in a black Ford Focus at around 1.15am.

Police recovered a partial number plate, and checks on road cameras showed a similar vehicle had travelled from London to the West Midlands before the offence took place.

Motorway cops then spotted the car – found to have been stolen in Ilford, Essex around 10 days ago – on the M6.

The driver attempted to escape so police gave chase and the vehicle crashed into bushes.

The occupant then tried to flee on foot before officers pursued him through pitch black fields at around 2.15am.

Jewellery and police uniform was recovered from the abandoned car.

A 55-year-old man from Dagenham was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, car theft, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and robbery.

He remains in police custody while police enquiries continue.
