Boy, 13, causes mass evacuation at primary school with bomb threat phone call
A 13-year-old boy provoked a huge emergency response after making a hoax phone call to warn of a bomb at a primary school.
Police rushed to the scene at Fen Ditton Primary School, near Cambridge, after receiving reports of a bomb threat yesterday morning.
Pupils and staff were forced into an urgent mass evacuation following the teenager’s bogus call to the school in Horningsea Road.
Investigating officers later confirmed that the situation was no longer being considered a live threat and have since questioned the young culprit.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: ‘We were called at about 10am yesterday to Fen Ditton Primary School with reports the school had received a bomb threat.
‘The caller has been identified as a 13-year-old boy. He has since been interviewed.
‘An investigation for communicating false information continues.’
The bomb threat caused teachers and students to flee to the nearby Marleigh Primary Academy, according to an email sent by staff to parents.
In the initial email, the school confirmed they were alerted to a bomb threat via a phone call to the school.
A second email to parents said pupils remained at Marleigh Primary Academy until 2pm before returning to Fen Ditton Primary School.
The school thanked parents for their patience in the email and praised the efforts of all those involved for reacting so quickly.
They said: ‘We are so proud of the behaviour of our school community today and want to thank Cambridgeshire Police, Anglian Learning and Marleigh Primary Academy colleagues for their very rapid and effective support.’
