Block of flats burst into flames with cats trapped inside

Two cats trapped in a burning flat have died after it burst into flames in London today.

Around 60 firefighters descended on Amber Way, Hammersmith, this evening after a ‘very visible’ fire sparked a flurry of 999 calls.

People made 20 of them in total, the first of which was around 17.48pm on Sunday.

The fire destroyed the three-room flat on the fifth floor of a seven story building before firefighters got it under control.

No injuries have been reported, but two cats trapped inside have died.

In a statement, London Fire Brigade said: ‘Eight fires and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on Amber Way in Hammersmith.

‘Part of a three roomed flat on the fifth floor in the seven storey block of flats was destroyed by fire.

‘It was a very visible fire with 20 999 calls made to the Brigade’s Control centre alerting them to the fire.

‘Sadly two cats died at the scene. Thankfully, no further injuries are reported.  

‘The Brigade’s 999 Control centre received their first call about the fire at 1748. The fire was under control by 1843.

‘Fire crews from Acton, Chiswick, Kensington, North Kensington, Paddington, Ealing and Chelsea fire stations were in attendance.

‘The cause of the fire is under investigation.’
