Today on Sky Sports Racing: Wolverhampton hosts competitive all-weather card
It’s all about the West Midlands this evening as Wolverhampton plays host to a busy nice-race card on the all-weather, live on Sky Sports Racing
5.00 Wolverhampton – Last-time-out winners H Key Lails and Showhound clash
A competitive looking handicap which sees several in-form rivals lock horns including Richard Fahey’s Showhound, who hadn’t shown much on the all-weather until winning at huge odds of 33/1 at Newcastle last time. The key to this one looks to be the step up to seven furlongs and the 2lb rise might not be enough to stop him.
Callum Hutchinson gets the leg up on H Key Lails who is a consistent type and comes here in good form having won at Lingfield last month. It would be a concern that his best form comes over a mile and he is in fact yet to win over this distance.
Fools Rush In disappointed when sent off 10-11 favourite at Lingfield, but should be given another chance having just bumped into an in-form rival that day.
Port Erin and Zu Run complete the shortlist in what looks a tricky Weekly Free Bets With BetMGM Extra Handicap.
6.00 Wolverhampton – Tyke and Gogo Yubari headline.
Dylan Cunha’s four-year-old Gogo Yubari was keeping on over the five lengths at Chelmsford and will enjoy this step back up in trip here. He finds his way back to his last winning mark of 67 which came over course and distance and should be competitive.
Tyke finished second over course and distance last time, having set a good clip from the front and despite this still finished credibly. He must be respected off an unchanged mark and if allowed to dictate matters from the front he could get himself into the winners’ enclosure.
Professor Tickle was well beaten by Tyke and it would be hard to argue that he could turn that form around but he is now 7lbs below his last winning mark which would give him an each-way chance in this £30 In Free Bets With BetUK Handicap.
5.30 Wolverhampton – Starfighter & Virtual Hug reoppose.
Nine-year-old Starfighter loves it around Wolverhampton, having notched up four wins and the veteran is set to make his 73rd racecourse appearance. He beat the reopposing Virtual Hug who chased him home and is likely to overturn that form being 1lb better off this time in the BetUK. It’s Where The UK Bets Handicap.
Mhajim caught the eye at Lingfield, finishing strongly despite being slowly away and should be in the mix if breaking well this time.
Tony Carroll saddles Walk The Moon who bounced back to form following a wind operation and should go well with the trainer bidding for the all-weather trainers title.
Other Wolverhampton
Andrew Balding’s Chartwell Jock cost a hefty 100,000gns from Tattersalls’ book two, and will look to get off the mark at the first time of asking in tonight’s Extra Winnings With BetUK Acca Club Maiden Stakes. Hollie Doyle gets the ride on Crackalackin, replacing Gina Mangan.
Tom McGuiness has two runners in the shape of Viva Voce (7.00) and Hastily (8.30), both of whom will be eyeing a return to winning ways after falling short the last day.
