Tech Tips

How technology in sports is literally a game-changer

With technology now taking industries such as food, transport and banking to hitherto unimagined levels, it was only a matter of time before it took over sports and make its mark in professional sport and competitions at all levels. Even within the confines of the basic rules that haven’t changed in decades or even centuries, the way it’s watched, coached and regulated has changed dramatically.

From making sport far more accessible to watch around the world and next-level tracking technology that quell disputes between players to micro-market sports betting, let’s have a look at some of the more important uses of tech in sport below.

Live Streaming on media platforms

Local television is fairly restricted by their audience on what is worthwhile to show. Though the NFL makes big bucks in many parts of the world and the Super Bowl is one of the most watched events each year, even large countries such as India don’t show regular-season games live. NFL, NBA and other sports came up with their own streaming services so that fans in even the most remote locations could watch every game in full, live or delayed.

Some competitions such as the English Premier League had lucrative contracts with Twitter to stream some of their games on there. Amazon Prime and Hotstar are some of the other platforms which have enthusiastically taken to streaming various live sporting events to bring them to a wider audience that may not have been able to watch the matches otherwise.

Live Streaming Review Websites

With the popularity of live streams and so many of them to choose from there are also plenty of websites that review football live stream sites as well as live streaming for other sports. Some of these websites are also connected to sports betting and sports betting odds as well as sports news. For example 101greatgoals Live Streaming gives its site visitors a whole range of options to stream football from a variety of football leagues with many of these streams also ideal for in-play betting markets if you like to bet on football matches while they are being played live!

On top of this, 101greatgoals gives you hot news, the chance to join its community, upcoming live streams, football betting tips, transfer news, all-round football news, and match fixtures as well as results so you never miss out!

Hawk-Eye Technology

Matches worth millions of dollars are often decided on the slimmest of margins. Until fairly recently, a lot of these margins were subject to human accountability and therefore error. Tennis was infamous for players arguing with umpires and linesmen about calls.

Though this still happens, it is heavily reduced due to the Hawk-Eye technology that always tracks the position of the ball and can tell, to within millimetres, where the ball lands, thereby negating any potential for ambiguity. Normally the players challenge a call they think is wrong, but this year in the Australian Open, they did away with linesmen altogether, and only had Hawk-Eye making the judgements and a recorded voice announcing the calls.

Cricket was one of the earlier sports to embrace technology to help make decisions, by allowing an umpire to review video evidence for certain calls. They now also use Hawk-Eye to judge where a ball would have travelled, based on its trajectory. Football has long been a holdout, but after a few high-profile bungles, including one in an England-Germany World Cup game, they have finally capitulated to allow Goal-Line Technology to see if the ball has crossed the goal line for a goal or not.

Wearables for performance tracking

Athletes in most top leagues these days wear trackers to monitor every step they take on court or on the field. These track biometrics and can help improve performance when combined with KPI’s and advanced analytics. And the stats make great information for the die-hard fan who wants to know the intimate performance of their favourite player or team.
