Which of these two homes with solar panels would  you choose?

The squeeze on household incomes and rising utility bills is putting a new emphasis on energy efficiency features at home.

It means that homes with solar panels stand out from the crowd and are more appealing than ever in this current economic climate.

We take a look at two homes for sale with solar panels as part of our Property Battle series and ask which one would you choose?

The first is a four-bedroom property in Sheffield that is on the market with a guide price of between £525,000 and £550,000.

The second is a five-bedroom bungalow in Powys, Wales, that is for sale with a price tag of £350,000.

1. Four-bed house, Sheffield, £525,000

This four-bedroom house in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, has been refurbished throughout but retains many original features, including stained glass windows and wooden doors.

Modern additions include CCTV, double glazing and solar panels, which can be seen on the roof as you approach the property. It also has a separate annexe and a hot tub.

The detached house is for sale with a guide price of between £525,000 and £550,000. It is being sold by Redbrik estate agents.

Daniel Copley, of property website Zoopla, said: ‘This charming property is the perfect place to work from home due to its spacious detached annexe which comprises a garage, office space and a shower room.

‘The property is also located in a scenic area overlooking the countryside, while there are also excellent transport links to Sheffield city centre.’

2. Five-bed house, Machynlleth, Wales £350,000

This five-bedroom house in the market town of Machynlleth in Powys, Wales, has been extensively renovated.

It sits in around a third of an acre of land and includes a brightly-lit open plan kitchen.

The bungalow boasts a number of environmentally-friendly features, including rainwater harvesting – which help to reduce water costs – and solar panels that provide around £500-£600 a year in energy.

It is on the market for £350,000 and is being sold via Lloyd Herbert & Jones estate agents.

Mr Copley added: ‘The property also has a spacious open plan kitchen and dining area, which leads into the bright and airy conservatory and garden.’
