IBD Live Q&A And Two Key Stock Lists For April 22, 2022

Goooooooood Moooornnning IBD Liiiive!!! Happy Friday, Friends! You get the prize for 1st one on the Q&A this morning!! Thoughts on HPK. Buy seel or hold? Great move over the last few days off the 10-week line. If it were me, I’d at least take partial profits but that is not necessary. It depends on your personal time frame with the investment. GM everyone Darren – GM! Fully cash after gtting out of oxy yesterday – no screens open today just watching show. Phil – was a “downer” of a day yesterday, for sure! Scott Good Morning!!:) Good Morning, Riccardo! Good morning, welcome George! Ronald hat man 2 – on behalf of George – Thank you! Welcome George! Pleased to have you with us. Phil – on behalf of George: He is excited to be on IBD Live this morning! (He won the U.S. Investing Championship in the Professional division in the past!) GM IBD Live, happy Firday & let’s roll! Definitely Thomas! HCC did not go well. Coal group down almost 8% this week! what do you think of COST now? I started a position in this one and like it a lot. Its still in the buy done from the 566.85 cup-with-handle base on the weekly chart good morning IBD Live good morning, Raghavesh! What’s up w the IBD hme page. Eerything is blown up & doesn’t look right. Douglas – looks ok on my end; maybe try a restart of your computer. Otherwise, feel free to Investor’s Business Daily Customer Success Team a call at 1-800-831-2525. Thanks, Scott Morning all. Watch IBD live every day. Thoughts on AAL Steven – thank you so much for being a “regular” with the Live show! AAL (American Airlines) had a nice move yesterday, and like TSLA held a gain on an ugly day. In my opinion, if it can hold at the $20 level, it would be worth considering getting in! Thanks, Scott Best practice suggestion… Always type/add the morning pick tickers in the live Question panel. I share this because yesterday Ali said she suggests people join the show on time so she doesnt have to repeat them, but some of us have kids, jobs, and life in the background of Zoom and cant always join at the start or cant hear the ticker suggestions due to background noise. Thank you for your consideration of this best practice. Anon – good idea! I’ll see if we can’t do that in the future. Scott good morning in these difficult markets how is George handling this with even Cyclicals having bad periods now SE – I’m sure he will be discussing this during the show today! Scott We have 6 distribution days on NASDAQ and S&P 500 each. We are still MARKET UPTREND UNDER PRESSURE. When do we get into MARKET IN CORRECTION. Watching the S&P 500’s April 18 intraday low. Still holding but not by much. LNTH Incredible RS but need to wait for new base or first test of 10-week line. I have been up and down so many times in last 12 months that I feel like a yo you. My analysis is that I would be better off if I became a day trader for the last year. Swing and Position trading not working. I look and I am up 5% in morning – go get coffee and retrurn I am down 8%. Thankfully I am only 10% invested. Thanks for letting me vent. Leslie – I understand, for sure! Not sure that being a Day Trader would be better for you. Stay with IBD Live and they will guide us the best through these trying times. Scott VRTX Is that considered too extended to enter? Yes, very extended. Strong enough stock, though, where it could pull back to 21-day EMA and find support Hi Have been an IBD & MarketSmith / Daily Grapphs Subscriber 25 years- Have 2 Qu, Bull Vs Bears Cont. Ind. & TBT got in & out as per Swing trader, understand -dont give Gains Back, during this upcoming rising rate envirnment, could this be a longer term hold w a long dated call ? thanks Jeff Z jeff – yes, possibly. If you have a ST position that continues to improve, you can certainly keep it and turn it into a longer term holding. That has happened on occasion! Thanks, Scott I’m sure a few babies were thrown out with the bath water yesterday. hopefully there will be a few swing trades that emerge David – yes, probably/possibly! It all depends on where the tide of the market is going. Thanks, Scott EW still buyable? I’d say no. Earnings next Tuesday and ugly reversal Thursday, along with most other stocks. Holding 1/4 position on LB, currently just below our 123.70 entry. Thoughts on PANW? Thanks PANW nailed Thurs in ugly market. If it eventually tests its 50-day line, it’s a strong enough stock where I would expect it to find support. CUTR Good eye. Great technicals. Love the look of the weekly chart. Showing strength and support. ABBV actionable as it bounces off it’s 50D? Or too worriesome of a market? No doubt market is worrisome. This is technically the second test of the 50-day line. It’s holding support for now, but would like to see a better test of 10-week line on weekly chart. Currently, it’s in the bottom half of its weekly range. Ed, I enjoyed the “hope is not a strategy” comment in yesterday’s Stock Market Today column. Did you borrow that from the YouTube manosphere? I definitely didn’t come up with that myself. We say it a lot around IBD. AAL looks interesting Darren – for AAL (American Airlines), see the comment in the Q&A from 9:23 am EST. Thanks, Scott Can we look at $AAL as a recovery play? Nancy – for AAL (American Airlines), see the comment in the Q&A from 9:23 am EST. Thanks, Scott This. is maybe the best few sentances ive heard in weeks and is exactly my thoughts Phil – agreed! George is really grounded & has a good way of communicating his thoughts! Scott I am getting better about taking the escape hatch at about 8% loss. Valuable habit. Robert – oh my gosh, yes!!! Yesterday after the market close, I made sure I had Stop Limit orders on all my positions. (BTW – I have 2 positions that I didn’t place the order, just using an alert; I didn’t get out when I needed to; now sitting on big losses, hoping for a market turn-a-round.) Not fun! Scott (Kicking myself also) VYGR I started keeping an eye on this stock after you discussed it with David Ryan on Tuesday. great example now how a bioteceh company is exposed to the next FDA approval or as in this case not. Magnus – VYGR (Voyager Therapeutics) definitely show that example. No real Sales; EPS negative most quarters. These kinds of stocks have huge potential if all goes well; and can be a big loser also! Scott NEM the miners have gone up a lot more than the price of gold. If you look at GLD vs GDX, they look very different. The miners might just be adjusting accordingly. Miners will move a lot more than gold up or down. A few $$ more on the gold price can mean a lot for profitability. What’s going on with Stryker? Looking for news. Don’t see any. CLF had a good result today. Dont know if its not extended yet?. Anon – CLF was a favorite of mine about a year ago. Good Sales & EPS growth; Composite Rating of 96 is very good; EPS Rating of only 79 is a concern. Fidelity Contrafund does have a 0.08 position. Ed discussing now. Thx! Scott NVDA undercut the 1/24 and 3/8 low. Dropped below $200.00. At some point here, with so many tech names at value prices, I hope to see some buying! Shane – was just going to give you my thoughts . . . now being discussed by Ali & George. Scott Q for George: if you were participating in the 2022 US Investing Championship what would be your trading strategy? live answered Justin- Did I hear you right? You are 100% in? I was making a hypothetical. If you are buying too many of the stocks in the same industry you might be overly exposed (100% in for my example) and have very few industries (I used oils and miners for example). Justin- Did I hear you right? You are 100% in? No, he’s lightly invested like all of us Is MTDR at the buy point? Amit – MTDR (Matador Resources) in the Oil&Gas-US group (11/197) had a nice move out of the 3rd stage Cup base, with a 3 weeks tight area recently. Increasing IBD Mutual fund ownership; 100% Checklist number. But dropping now thru 10 day & 21 day lines. I would suggest waiting to see if it holds at the 50 day. Thanks, Scott OKE – if it closes at this level would it be considered a “5 wks tight” pattern? Wayne – OKE (Oneok, Inc) in the Oil&Gas-Transport group (20/197) has had a nice run! 2 recent Consolidation bases, with the 4 weeks tight now – possibly becoming 5 weeks tight. In my opinion, I would set a buy price under the 70 level, and let it drift down a bit. Thanks, Scott Great NVDA Analysis both technical and mental. Thank you so much! Shane – IBD Live is very good, I agree! What we learn from the Team can pay for the annual subscription with 1 good trade!! Thx, Scott I appreciate the honest discussion of this very challenging market; very reaffirming to what I was thinking… Yes, leshaitles! This type of market is when we gain experience and learn how to trade intelligently; rather than “shooting from the hip”! Scott Does TWTR have a “Minervini” cheat level over 48.73 even though it is not an official cup base? This could be the weekend that MUSK gets his way. It could be. Of course, there’s always the risk that it falls apart. In that case, TWTR could give up all its Musk gains and much more given the April declines in FB/SNAP. So there could be a quick pop in TWTR – or a sudden 30% plunge. LXU appears to be picking itself back up off the floor. Any thoughts on this stock? It’s made a such a huge move, I’d rather wait for a new base or first test of 10-week moving average. Thoughts on that low volume pullback in CRWD from the 4/13 pivot? Mahalo’s Resistance at the 40-week line on weekly gives me pause. DVA mentioned yesterday, getting hammered HCA/ISRG slamming a lot of medical plays. Ally what about HZNP – round tripped after this mornings drop. Any thoughts from the team? sell, buy wait? Thanks James – HZNP (Horizon Therap) in the Medical-Biomed group (100/197): If you had an early entry, you could wait for the 7-8% loss point. If you bought right at the BP of the current Stage 1 Cup base of 120.63, you are already at an 11% loss; best to cut your losses. As Justin commented, you can always buy it back if it starts looking better. Scott Is it a good time to add SQQQ? Seemed to me there was a buy signal yesterday. comments TUFN Powerful heavy volume move yesterday. Its below the proper buy point but the early entry on 4/15 would have been the ideal spot to enter. I like this industry group, perhaps the one area of tech that is viable right now. But volume on this stock is very light so that could present problems. Im hearing Must has a 60/40% of taking TWTR… What is the West coast thoughts? Seems reasonable. Thanks Dark Ops, Ken, in particular, for your quick response to my question on LXU. Appreciate your insights. Carolyn Carolyn – Ken is great! Has a lot of good, practical, common sense thoughts on the market! I’ve learned a lot from him. Scott Pls talk about LDOS. Very tight and rising RS Very tight action and I like seeing the RS line at new highs. I think it’d be buyable above the current 4 weeks tight. OKE getting support at 21-day EMA, watching close, earnings coming up Thomas – for OKE (Oneok, Inc), take a look at the comments from the Q&A at 9:58 EST. Scott WWE looks decent? Anand – WWE (World Wrestling) is currently in a 45 week Stage 1 Consolidation base. Checklist is 100%; EPS rating is 92; Composite is 95; Acc/Dis is A- (all very good). Cash Flow and U/D Volume Ratio are good. The current price around 61.40 seems like a reasonable entry point, in my opinion. Scott where do u see that comments I dont see in this Q&A here Amit – you should be able to scroll up or down along the right side of the Q&A panel and move to the time frame as noted. Let me know if that isn’t working on your end. Thx! Scott I sold half of my TBT into strength. Is it time to add now? Fed will raise soon! I like the selling into strength. Not buyable now, though. Remember bond market VERY oversold (see TLT) LNG bouncing up from 10-wk Looking good. Happy to have it on LB since Jan. “Know what you are good at”…in other words, stay in your lane! lol Exactly! Haha With the Washington working so hard to screw erything up (i.e. shutting down oil production and pipe lines to force people to do their bidding), Inflation and Supply chain issues – what would make this market turn around? Oh Leslie! Very important question – not sure of the best way to answer this for you! A climate of smaller government which allows individuals and businesses do what they do best; this is my own opinion of what would help this market. Thanks, Scott How do we follow George? Website or Twitter? https://twitter.com/jurijt ICL is in the strong Chem/ Agri group & has a blue dot . Thoughts ?? This looks like a solid pullback to the 10-week line and could be buyable off of that. But the stock’s daily average dollar volume is a little light and that would cause issues. FTNT dropped precipitiously though it’s moving averages over the last two trading sessions – could we hear George’s opinion on it’s action? Wayne – FTNT (Fortinet) in the Sftwr-Security group (61 of 197) is definitely declining in recent days. It is in a 16 week Stage 1 Consolidation base with a 371.87 BP. All indicators showing good – EPS at 94, Composite at 96, Contrafund has a position, decent Sales & EPS. In my opinion, I would wait for the current test of the 50 week line to see if it holds and moves higher. Thx! Scott LNG Very intriguing consolidation. Note the 3 shake-out days on 3/29, 4/13, and today. With earnings in 12 days, it’s unlikely to provide enough time to secure a nice cushion, but, this should be monitored closely. It may provide a nice SwingTrade, some time next week as it breaks above a downward trending slopeline on some volume. Looking stout Peter, I agree. can we look at LLY Brian – Ali & George discussing now! Scott JETS football team a laggard as well LOL. I’m sure the next No. 1 draft pick will turn the tide… Please look at the indexes and suggest important levels to watch. I heare a lot of caution in the comentary. We were definitely watching the SP500’s 4/18 intraday low, but that level gave way today. Looks like the market is staking out lows Mike – yes it is! Looked just a bit ago that we might see some upward movement. It would be really nice to see a move higher to finish out the week strong! May or may not happen. Scott Is there some news on SLB? Earnings this morning. I dont underdtand that you keep looking for stocks to possible buy, when the market is under pressure, and most stocks not working…..I am down for the month…and you exited most swing trade stocks. We’re looking for possible setups in individual stocks or sectors. I don’t think people should be buying right now. googl – thoughts plz Taking out lows of latest consolidation. Looking for a bottom. Earnings next week along with AMZN, AAPL, MSFT Ali, you are GREAT at this job. Anon – she is superb! We agree!! Scott Justin, what’s ur take on “BRO”? are u still holding it? live answered Good morning – What is the best way to get a more accurate read on volume with a stock at the beginning of the day in Marketsmith? The volume % starts off much higher than how it finishes the day. Just trying to get a better gauge on what stocks are really having higer volume in the morning. Thanks! Travis – As a MS subsciber, there is a personal Coaching session included with your subscription; give the Investor’s Business Daily Customer Success Team a call at 1-800-831-2525 and they can direct you. Thanks, Scott Hi Ed. What is “New America”? And why is it called New America? – Byrde Brain New America is a weekly feature – a company profile of a leading stock. Good way to learn about interesting companies and their industries. We call it “New America” because we’re often covering newer companies – though not always American cos. anymore! LLY, Did Ally say it was trimmed yesterday on Leaderboard? I stand corrected. It was not trimmed. Team wanted to see if it could get support near recent lows. Pullback in light volume LLY, Did Ally say it was trimmed yesterday on Leaderboard? It is still a 1/2 position, about 4 points below our LB entry. Danaher-DHR- buy, hold or sell ? Just nibbled on the pull back. Gerald – DHR is dropping to the bottom of the current 33 week Consolidation base. All indicators look reasonable; the Market is too uncertain right now to start a position as it trends lower. Thanks, Scott What do you think of HII which gapped up last week and is holding at the gap up level? Steve – HII (Huntington Ingalls Inds) in the Aerospace/Defense group (43/197) is currently in a 7 week Cup base with a 228.76 BP. Some of the indicators are not good: Negative Sales & EPS growth, no IBD Mutual Funds in the stock; EPS is 39, Composite Rating is 76. Probably best to wait for a move to and thru the BP of the base in strong volume; basically a ‘character’ change for the stock. Scott I prefer MANZIER over BRO That’s showing strong support where it’s badly needed. How do you interpret the red and green arrows in the predicted EPS box? It just means that estimates have been rising (green) or falling (red) The SPY got 5 distribution days already past few weeks! 6 on the Nasdaq since March 31. 6 on the Nasdaq since April 5, I believe. IBM is holding pretty well – Should be on watch list, back above 200SMA with big volume after earnings Gabriel – IBM is in a slow downtrend on the Monthly chart, with no IBD Mutual Fund sponorship. That says a lot! If the big funds are not in a well known company like this, it will not get the buying needed to propel it higher. Thx! Scott Can you confirm for us what the follow through day was that started this rally, and what it will take for the rally to be over? S&P 500 followed through first on March 16; Nasdaq followed through on March 18. Ali, I can’t see you spoiling anything! lol hat man 2 – neither can we! Scott Scott, thanks for being so engaged in the Q&A with your bonus comments! Very glad to have you on the show today. Happy to say he’s going to be a regular in the Q&A! Justin says ” We are looking for stocks to watch, not buy….” Ali says previously to a panel member “would you take a position in ____stock at this point?” Confusion for listeners, so why still in uptrend under pressure?? Hi Nathan! I ask open-ended questions, and the panelists say whether they are buying or not. They are saying they aren’t buying. It’s important to hear their analysis/answers! I am not telling anyone what to do; simply asking questions, not making buy recommendations. Thank you so much for the feedback! Can’t you protect some of your positions, ie, REITs, with hedges like put options? Yes. I usually reserve puts for my best stocks for when they get extended and look likely to pull back. If you just bought a REIT I would just take the loss when it hits your stop. MMC live answered CPE live answered panw live answered TBT live answered Can we look at COST? live answered is now a good time to pick up SQQQ? live answered MOS live answered RJF? Between 50 and 21 live answered How about nflx Richard – NFLX (Netflix) is a broken stock at this point; one to be avoided. Thanks, Scott $DE live answered Thanks Scott. Steve – you are very welcome! We so appreciate you joining us for the show each morning! Scott Will you put the market in correction if we close where we are now? bhavin – see Ken’s comment at the 9:24 EST mark in the Q&A. Thanks, Scott Scott what if your entry is 109.87 (Rachel likes) Thanks James – sorry about this – which stock?? Thanks, Scott COST live answered Ovvit OVV? live answered Tickers: BJ, OXY live answered Scott, thank you for your input Richard – actually, we want to thank you for watching the show each morning! I can’t tell you how much the Q&A has made me aware of a stock that I should be considering. Thx! Scott Scott, thank you for the great detailed job answering questions! Repeating the stock name, providing the sector and key fundamentals really helps those of us entering in the middle of the conversation. Very thorough… and very much appreciated! lola – many thanks! I remember trying to do the same thing when I was simply watching the show! A ticker symbol that I didn’t recognize was hard to research while watching the show. I only joined the “Dark Ops” recently; so I’m still just a ‘watcher’ of the show in many ways! Thank you!! Scott STER looks strong again live answered ORLY for lightning round live answered Bought STER yesterday and dropped 5%. Up today. Thoughts MARK – STER (Sterling Check)in the Sftwr-Security group (61/197) is an early growth company; need a strong stomach for this one. thanks, Scott MRNA? live answered Can you tell me how you use options to determine the expeced move of a stock at earnings Take a look at the at money put and call at the nearest expiration, and the prices and divide that into the stock price. The percentage is the expected move. Quick feedback – I don’t find much value in the lightening mode “buy” or “sell” one word answers — it is good if the commentary is short, but the commentary is important. And maybe that will help Ali not need to worry about people saying more than one word! 🙂 Anon – the lightning mode give us the opportunity to cover a lot of stock in the final remaining minutes of the show. Appreciate your comment! Scott CF Anon – see the comment in the Q&A from 10:44 am EST. Thanks, Scott Have a great weekend! Anon – you too!! Scott hank you so much, George! GREAT having you here this morning. Have a great weekend everyone! Shane – you were first; can you be the last on the Q&A?? Scott great show in a tough environ thanks all, nice to have Goerge hope he comes on again Definitely! Scott Ali is a great facilitator! Ali should be made a permanent host of IBD Live! Can’t argue with that. 🙂 Please be patient and remember, corrections are heathy and lead to proper bases and future opportunities! Cheers to all! Have an amazing weekend! Yes, indeed! Scott Ed is a great compliment .. facilitator… “Team” 🙂 Yes, he is!! Scott
