Where Does ‘Andor’ Go from Here?

Viewership numbers may not show it, but critical acclaim for Star Wars TV has not been kind so far. The Mandalorian, Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan often felt like ways to put IP in front of us again. Luke Skywalker picking up Baby Yoda, the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, and an endless number of cool guys who shoot laser guns. Hell, even Obi-Wan spent a good amount of his first three episodes just shooting a gun.

Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) might be both Rogue One IP and a gun-slinger as well, but there’s a reason why his new series has the sauce that many critics feel the franchise has been lacking since Rogue One. Andor has fleshed-out characters, a world that feels actually lived-in, and as Esquire wrote in our review: “something that can stand entirely on its own, outside the trappings of the massive multiverse in which it exists.”

Sure, we’re still only around two hours into what has been announced as a 24-episode journey spread over two seasons, but it’s exciting to think about where Andor can go from here, now that he’s blasted off into space once again. Many mysteries still remain, such as the identity of Stellan Skarsgård’s character, the search for Andor’s sister, and what adventures await our future Rebellion spy.

Where Is Andor Going Next?

Star Wars fans already know that by the end of Rogue One, Cassian Andor ends up as a cindering pile of ash on the planet Scarif. It’s not the greatest of endings for our new hero, but there are still plenty of adventures that can occur in between. Andor is not only one of the most important figures in setting up the rebellion and acquiring the Death Star plans, but he’s one of the most pragmatic and quick-thinking spies the franchise has seen yet. Cassian is also merely in his earliest days with the Rebellion in Andor Season One, so there’s really no telling where his journey may take him next.

Who Is Luthen Rael?

When Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) shows up on Ferrix to recruit Cassian, he reveals that he already knows a lot about the Kenari outlaw. That’s great for Rael, but we still don’t know jack squat about him. Right now, all viewers know is that he’s a guy who clearly despises the Empire, which may place him somewhere in the Rebel Alliance. However, we do have one clue to go on, which, of course, comes from an eagle-eyed Reddit user. Posting an image from the Andor trailer, we can clearly see a scene between Rael and Mon Mothma, one of the rebel leaders. Rael is standing over an artifact from the Clone Wars, which turns out to be the mask of General Plo Koon. He was also one of the great Jedi lost in the aftermath of Order 66 in Revenge of Sith. While this doesn’t give any info as to how Luthen Rael plays into Andor, it does reveal his reverence for the fallen Jedi order and connections to the future Rebel Alliance in Rogue One.

Who Is Cassian Andor’s Sister?

Andor opens with Cassian in a brothel searching for the whereabouts of his long-lost sister. She’s not there, and even more discouraging, she may never have been. Stolen from his home planet when he was just a little boy, he hasn’t seen his younger sister since. Even so, he never stopped looking for her. Many theories so far point to Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), the mechanic and black market dealer who is Cassian’s friend on Ferrix. She seems to truly care for Cassian, but there’s some simmering, sexual tension there. Fans may be leaning toward Bix simply because she’s the only other female character in the proper age range that audiences have at the moment, but it’s not a bad guess. The franchise may even be replicating Luke and Leia’s relationship before realizing that they shouldn’t be kissing because, you know, they were siblings. Still, don’t expect Disney to go full House of the Dragon on us.

When Will Andor Season Two Debut?

Hold your horses! There are still nine more episodes of Season One to air between now and Nov. 23, 2022, when Andor Season Two is expected to start filming. “We’ll shoot from November [2022] to August [2023], and then our post last time was about a year,” series creator Tony Gilroy told The Wrap. That places Andor Season Two at roughly a Fall 2024 debut. Don’t be discouraged, though. There are still plenty of adventures in store for Cassian Andor in the meantime. One burning question on my mind: where can I get some of those blue noodles?
