Tyra Banks Announces ‘It’s Time’ for Her to Leave ‘Dancing With the Stars’
After hosting the celebrity dance competition for three seasons, Tyra Banks has decided to leave Dancing With the Stars in order to direct more focus into her business operations.
“I feel it’s time for me to really focus on my business and my entrepreneurship, and also producing more TV — but behind the scenes,” Banks revealed to TMZ. “I think it’s time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor…from the ballroom to the boardroom.” Personally I think wordplay like that would be wasted on Wall Street, but what do I know.
Asked to confirm that she really has decided to leave the show, Banks said, “Don’t you think it’s time? Yeah, I think it’s time. I’m an entrepreneur at heart.… I think my heart, my soul, is into my business, it’s also into producing new TV, which we’re working on. We have a new business show coming soon. But, I really, really want to focus on my business, and you can’t do that hosting a show.”
Tyra Banks’s DWTS tenure hasn’t been all smooth sailing, starting from the very beginning when some online commentators speculated that she’d been hired as Tom Bergeron’s replacement in order to fill some kind of diversity quota. “It actually hurts my feelings a bit that people think that I was hired because I’m a Black woman,” she told Glamour in 2020. “Tom Bergeron is a genius host, a comedic host. I had to make sure that I could bring something new, [while] respecting what he’s already done. And that could I really bring my audience to the show.”
