Paris Hilton is reflecting back on her life like never before, both with her new YouTube documentary and in recent interviews—like this new People article, where she discusses several previous boyfriends who she says were abusive.
“I went through multiple abusive relationships,” she told People in an interview. “I was strangled, I was hit, I was grabbed aggressively. I put up with things no one should.”
She says that there were five relationships she would categorize as abusive. “They all seemed like such nice guys and then the true colors would show,” Hilton said. “They’d get jealous, or defensive or try to control me. And there there would come a point where they would become physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive.”
She continued, “I didn’t really understand what love or relationships were. I thought that them getting so crazy meant that they were in love with me. Looking back, I can’t believe I let people treat me like that.”
Hilton recently opened up about abuse she says she suffered at a boarding school in Provo, Utah, which she thinks contributed to some of her other issues. “I had become so used to [abusive behavior] at Provo, that it made me feel like it was normal,” she told People. Hilton also believes the problems at school were a factor in her infamous 2003 sex tape. “I would never have let anyone into my life like [the man in the tape, whom she was dating at the time],” she said. “I met the worst person I could meet and if I hadn’t gone to Provo, I wouldn’t have entertained the thought of letting him into my life. Provo affected my future relationships.”
People contacted the Provo Canyon School for comment, and they said, “Originally opened in 1971, Provo Canyon School was sold by its previous ownership in August 2000. We therefore cannot comment on the operations or patient experience prior to this time.”
Hilton says she is now in a healthy relationship with Carter Reum. “I feel so safe with him,” she told People. “Before, I don’t think I was really ready for a good relationship. But I’ve learned so much. And I’m so grateful to have found my perfect match.”
These topics and more will be discussed in Paris Hilton’s upcoming documentary, This Is Paris, which will premiere on her YouTube channel on September 14.
