Carl Weathers, who played bounty hunter guild leader Greef Karga in the first season of The Mandalorian, has confirmed his return for season two.
Carl Weathers, who played Greef Karga in the first season of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, has revealed that he will return in the upcoming second season. The highly popular Star Wars spin-off is set to return on October 30th of this year.
Given the intense popularity of The Mandalorian’s Baby Yoda (aka The Child) character, it’s easy to forget that other characters actually had a big impact on the series’ carefully unfolding story. As the leader of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild, Karga maintains a unique and ever-evolving relationship with the Mandalorian. After disobeying direct orders from Karga to do his job and not become emotionally invested in a client’s plans for The Child, the Mandalorian was at odds with the Guild. However, as the series progressed, audiences watched Karga become an ally to the Mandalorian—even going so far as to risk his life for him. At the end of the first season, the Mandalorian escapes an intense battle with Moff Gideon, leaving behind both Karga and Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and creating a huge amount of questions for fans in the process. Those questions will be answered soon enough, however.

Not only is The Mandalorian set to return in slightly less than two months’ time, but the rather mysterious second series now has confirmation that Karga will be returning. Weathers posted on his official Twitter account, “Greef Karga is back!” It’s a pleasant surprise for many fans of the Star Wars spin-off, especially after months of uncertainty and not a whole lot of information to go on. In what capacity or how many episodes Karga will be involved in currently remains unknown. But given his status as one of the key allies to the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda, there’s every reason to believe that Karga’s second season appearances will be significant.
Disney is still keeping plot details of the second season of The Mandalorian somewhat hush-hush. However, what fans can certainly expect is a continuation of the Mandalorian’s quest to find Baby Yoda’s homeworld and reunite him with his species. How Karga and Dune play into this is hard to say. It’s clear that Gideon—seeing as he survived his TIE fighter crash and is in possession of the Darksaber—will be out for revenge. Whether or not this could be a battle that Karga and Dune wage while the Mandalorian continues on his quest remains to be seen. Splitting the action between the two storylines would indeed make for two interesting stories at once, however. There’s also the issue of Karga being outed by Gideon as a “disgraced magistrate,” which will also likely be explored in further detail in the second season.
At this point, whatever the upcoming season of The Mandalorian has in store will instantly be consumed by eager fans. The simple fact that the series was able to stick to its production schedule and finish mere days before the COVID-19 pandemic began causing major delays is extremely fortunate. For now, at least, it’s exciting to know that a character like Karga and all the mysteries his character encompasses will be back for a second season.
