Through mealworms, pig vaginas and spats with AJ Pritchard over the washing-up, Shane Richie’s sons from his marriage to Coleen Nolan have been cheering their dad on from home.
Shane Nolan, 31, – who changed his name from Shane Richie Jr in 2017 – and his brother Jake Roche, 28, have both been marking Shane’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here stint in their own way.
While Shane Jr has been live-tweeting and accusing the show of whipping up drama between his dad and AJ, Jake took a more leftfield approach, sharing a video of himself playing different campmates as they learned whether they’d been nominated for the trial.
And when it came learning his own fate, the Ant/Dec impersonator darkly told Jake: “It’s not you… and it never will be you. You know what I’m saying? You’re never, ever going to live up to your father’s achievements. You know that don’t you?”
While former EastEnders star Shane Sr is extremely close to both his boys, Jake – who was once engaged to Little Mix star Jesy Nelson – has previously told of his past relationship with his dad.
Rixton star Jake was only seven when his parents split after Shane Sr cheated with dancer Claire Tyler, and poured out his feelings in songs for the band.
“I’m writing a lot about my dad and our relationship,” he previously told The Mirror.
“I don’t know if it’s positive but it’s about him, and what’s happened. One of the lyrics is ‘You shouldn’t see it when you are ten years old’.
“These are things that have happened to me as a young child. These things affect you a lot. I haven’t spoken to my dad about it.
“It’s art at the end of the day.”
While Jake declined to use either of his famous parents’ last names, opting instead for Shane Sr’s real surname, Shane Jr ditched his dad’s in favour of his mum’s after she entered CelebrityBig Brother in 2017 and won.
But he admitted he’d been worried about delivering the news to his entertainer dad.
“I was genuinely scared about telling him, but he was cool about it – chuffed, actually,” he told Best magazine.
Like his dad, Shane Jr trained as a Bluecoat as Brean Sands in Somerset before supporting his mum and The Nolans on tour in 2009.
From there he landed parts in Boogie Nights and the nationwide musical tour of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life alongside David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff.
He plays with his own band, Jersey Guys, and enjoys some healthy competition with his father, who once released a country album.
“I am the better singer even though he wouldn’t admit it,” Shane Jr once told My London, admitting Shane Sr had, “been a big inspiration to me.”
And while Jake was scarred by the divorce, Shane, who was 12 at the time, said his mum and dad shielded him from the worst.
“It wasn’t difficult growing up with famous parents because I didn’t know any different,” he said.
But Shane Sr and Coleen did get into a very public spat in 2005 when the latter told Loose Women viewers she would pay for Shane Jr to sleep with a prostitute in Amsterdam if he did well in his GCSEs.
A furious Shane Sr declared that he was ‘disgusted and appalled’, raging: “I can only think she said this for shock value, and I hope and assume it was said in total jest.
“No responsible parent would even think of such a thing – let alone state it.
“I can assure everyone that having passed his GCSEs – fingers crossed – Shane Jr will not be going to Amsterdam. I have bigger family plans.”
Defending herself, at the time Coleen argued: “In an ideal world I’d never condone my son sleeping with hookers, but it’s a fact of life that boys of his age have casual sex.
“So if I’m pushed, I’d rather he does it somewhere well-policed and where the girls have health checks than behind the wall of a club in Ibiza with absolutely no safeguards.”
And in 2017, the star admitted she regretted her comments, explaining it was only ever intended as a ‘flippant remark’.
“I didn’t want to be a naive mum,” she said on Loose Women.
“I was working for a magazine and they instantly fired me.
“It was really extraordinary the reaction it got. I went home and thought, God I wish I hadn’t said that.”
