Jesy Nelson shocked the showbiz world when she announced her departure from Litte Mix in December 2020 after nine incredibly successful years.
The 29-year-old songstress parted ways with her bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, and Jade Thirlwall almost a decade after they became the first band in history to champion The X Factor in 2011.
At the time, Jesy insisted that the Little Mix girls were not only her bandmates, she also admitted that they were her friends for life, and nothing could come between them.
Despite her friendship vow, it appears as though Jesy’s relationship with the singing trio has taken a turn for the worst as she is said to have ‘ severed ties’ with Leigh-Anne, Perrie, and Jade after a decade of success.
Since her departure from the girlband, Jesy has embarked on her own solo career, and according to The Sun, she no longer wants to maintain any personal or professional relationship with the Little Mix girls.
While it’s come as a huge shock for some die-hard fans, others have claimed that they saw the downfall of the foursome’s friendship coming after the girls downplayed split rumours and feuds throughout the duration of their musical careers.
Here, we take a look at how Little Mix appeared to try and cover up the cracks in their friendships in recent years.
Jesy says she’s relieved not to have to ‘please other people’ anymore
In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, the former Wings singer refused to discuss her relationship with her ex-bandmates but hinted at tension building in the weeks prior to her quitting the chart-topping group.
Jesy described what it was like being compared to her fellow Little Mix stars for nearly ten years and how she longer has ‘to worry’ about pleasing others as she sets her sights on a solo career.
And although the foursome had painted a picture-perfect friendship on social media, behind-the-scenes, their bond wasn’t as rosy as it may have seemed as Jesy felt left out and unwelcome.
The Shout Out To My Ex hitmaker admitted: “I don’t have to worry about having a music video or doing an interview wearing an outfit that I don’t want to wear because three other girls want to wear it.
“Sometimes, I felt like I was coming into an environment, sometimes, where people didn’t want me to be there.”
“Sometimes I wasn’t a positive energy because I was so down. When you feel that way anyway, to be around certain people on my team that didn’t want me there was hard.”
Little Mix row during rehearsals
In July 2020, Little Mix fans felt that the girlband was on borrowed time after pictures emerged of the foursome leaving rehearsals in London with scowling faces.
The singers appeared to have walked out of the recording studio early, with Jesy and Jade departing the building first with angry facial expressions while Leigh-Anne and Perrie followed on.
At one point, Jesy appeared to have an animated chat with Jade and was seen gesticulating with her hands.
Jesy then chose to sit away from her bandmates on a concrete bollard where she looked pensively and distracted herself with her phone.
The band had returned to work to promote their new single Holiday, their first in four months after the release of Break Up Song during lockdown in March, but judging by the pictures, tensions were sky high on their first trip back to the studio.
While the pictures made headlines, the girls brushed off rumours of any feud by gushing about each other on social media.
Feud rumours emerge as Perrie crops Jesy out of snap
Back in 2017, the first cracks in girl’s friendship began to seemingly surface.
One particular moment of tension emerged when Perrie appeared to crop Jesy out of a group photo after the band nabbed the Favourite Global Music Star gong at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
The move quickly sparked rumours among fans that things weren’t all as they had seemed behind closed doors.
Despite the speculated rift at the time, Perrie set the record straight when was forced to make an edit to her caption.
“Jesy is cropped out the picture because she doesn’t like any of the photos!” she wrote.
A couple of weeks later, Jesy went on to clarify what had happened with the cropped-out picture in a social media story.
“So, we just want to address the situation of the friendship between me and Perrie. Do you think I’d be lying alone in her bed if I wasn’t friends with her?” Jesy said at the time.
Little Mix party without Jesy – but are forced to explain why
The band are then said to have fuelled more rumours of a rift with Jesy after the remaining members of the band partied together without her in 2017.
However, Leigh-Anne justified Jesy’s absence from the photoshoot, explaining that the loved-up star was ‘pre-occupied’ with her boyfriend at the time.
This wasn’t the only occasion when Jesy was seen to be absent at Little Mix gatherings though, and in recent years, fans speculated that Jesy may not have enjoyed the company of her bandmates as much as she swerved a number of gatherings.
The starlet has always set the record straight however, confirming that she’s been absent from shows and public appearances as a result of her mental health.
The girls insist they only ever argue over song choices
In 2019, the group explained during an interview with Planet Radio that they ‘can’t be bothered’ to fight.
They did however reveal that tension sometimes arises when it comes to the band’s preferred songs.
Jade said: “Obviously sometimes we disagree on who prefers what songs the most, but we are pretty much on the same page and, at the end of the day, we all want to have a song that we love so we all have to be happy.”
This appears to contradict Jesy’s recent statement in her Cosmopolitan interview where she claimed that girls would disagree over certain outfits and stage ensembles.
Jesy shared: “I don’t have to worry about having a music video or doing an interview wearing an outfit that I don’t want to wear because three other girls want to wear it.”
Jesy’s departure statement and rapid solo career
The star announced her departure from Little Mix on December 14 2020, and said she needed to leave the band to take her life in a different direction.
In an emotional statement, the Black Magic musician said she needed to do the right thing for herself and say goodbye.
“I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard,” she revealed.
“I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing things that make me happy.”
She added it has all ‘taken a toll on my mental health’ in a heartbreaking announcement.
The remaining Little Mix band members said: “We know that Jesy leaving the group is going to be really upsetting news for our fans.
“We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being.”
At the time, Little Mix fans expected Jesy to have a social media hiatus, but they were both surprised and overjoyed to see her seemingly blossom on Instagram.
The singer also appeared to have jumped into her solo venture much quicker than expected after her departure from Little Mix.

According to The Sun, the Little Mix ladies expected Jesy to take a longer break before returning to music and that her quick movement into a solo career took them by surprise.
“That feels like a bit of a dig, and some of the things she has said took the girls by surprise,” another source told the paper.
The source claimed that there was now a divide between Jesy and the remaining Little Mix trio, with communication between them only occurring through third parties.
