Piers Morgan has shared on his relentless battle with Covid 19 – three weeks after he believes he picked up the virus at the chaotic Euro 2020 final.
The former Good Morning Britain Presenter has suffered a range of debilitating symptoms after being struck down by the virus after the historic sporting fixture and was left feeling ‘as rough as a badger’s backside’ more than three weeks on.
He told in his Daily Mail Column how despite being double-jabbed and attending the ‘Covid-secure’ event he described carnage and witnessed no Covid checks as beer-drunken antics encourage mask-less fans to spread the potentially fatal bug around the stands.
Piers, 56, has previously spoken out about the government’s handling of the pandemic but himself succumbed to the nasty virus as he took to Twitter.
Updating his 7.9 million followers he said: “Day 18 since Covid symptoms started and still have shocking fatigue & little taste/smell.”
“Anyone else who got virus after being fully vaccinated having same ‘journey’?”(sic)
And some of those were quick to reply with one revealing: “Was double vaxxed with AZ and have spent the past 14 days in hospital on oxygen… no joke this thing!”(sic)
“Yes me! I’m on day 17 still no smell and little taste. Get very tired too after doing very little. Am double jabbed and very shocked at how it has affected me, god knows how ill I’d have been without the vaccine,”(sic) another added.
The veteran broadcaster also updated fans in his Mail on Sunday newspaper column, writing on 27 July: “I’ve been left with waves of fatigue and a persistent cough that apparently could go on for quite a while.
“But by far the most annoying side effect is my current ongoing inability to taste or smell fine wine.”
Piers is not the first famous face to speak about his battle with the virus and told how singer James Blunt had also contracted Covid.
Recalling a chat with the Your Beautiful hitmaker, he told Piers he was “fine with the fever” but was terrified when it moved into his lungs leaving him silenced.
The singer was due to perform in Bournemouth but battled the virus with ‘steroids, inhalers, anti-inflammatories and antacids’ ,'” he told the GMB star.
Never one to miss a quip, Piers added: “Obviously, I explained to James, the real major flaw in the virus is that it still allowed him to sing,” he joked.
But the silver lining of Piers coming down with Covid appears to be his dramatic weight loss as he told he has lost 2kg.
The Life Stories star who believes he had the Delta variant experienced fever, cold sweats, coughing, sneezing, ’strange aches’ and ‘alarming’ chest pains, stating it was the ‘roughest’ he had felt from any illness in his adult life.
