Naya Rivera ‘s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey shared a heartbreaking post on Mother’s Day in the US.
Less than one year has passed since Naya died aged 33 of accidental drowning when she was out on Lake Piru in a boat with their son Josey, five, last year.
The actor shared a throwback snap of his late ex-wife with their son getting ice cream on Instagram to mark the occasion.
His heartbreaking words captured his grief as he said he was unable to say it was a happy day for their family.
In a loving message, Ryan thanked Naya for giving him their “sweet amazing boy”.
He wrote: “We can’t say the word happy but we’ll say thank you for being a mother & giving me this sweet amazing boy. #mothersday.”
The pair first met in 2010 but called off their romance due to Naya’s acting commitments.
They reconnected and love blossomed in 2014 before the couple took the plunge and tied the knot in a wedding in Mexico.
Their romance was rocky with the pair splitting briefly in 2016 before finally divorcing for good in 2017.
Once the divorce was finalised in 2018, the former flames remained amicable while raising their son.
Last year, Naya’s death sent shockwaves through the showbiz circuit.
It shocked the world when The Glee star vanished without a trace from the small boat, leaving behind her son.
Later in the search, her body was discovered.
After Naya’s death, Ryan shared a warm tribute about his ex on Instagram while he was grieving.
“I’m thankful for our times and our journey that brought us together and gave us the sweetest and kindest smart little boy we could ever hope for,” he wrote via Instagram.
“I remember sometimes you used to get annoyed at me: ‘Ryan can you stop snap chatting!’ Haha.
“I’m glad I didn’t listen to you because I have hundreds and probably thousands of snaps and videos that Josey will have forever and know his momma loved him more than life, and how much fun we had together as he was growing up.
“Life is all about good times and bad times but with Josey it makes the bad a little less so because a part of you will always be with us. He’ll never forget where he came from. We miss you. We will always love you.”
