Michelle Heaton and Katie Price have been pals for 21 years – after the mum-of-five’s arrest Michelle vowed to support her privately citing her own battles with alcohol
Michelle Heaton cut a very forlorn figure as she was seen for the first time since close pal Katie Price’s arrest.
Former pop star Michelle, herself a recovering alcoholic, begged pal Katie to get help before her arrest and has since maintained she would support her privately as she stays at The Priory.
Mum of two Michelle has become known for her candid speeches on her own addiction since she stayed at The Priory earlier this year – saying the £5,000 a week facility saved her life.
Yesterday, Michelle looked downcast as she walked her beloved dog Bella in London. Opting for a black beanie hat, leggings and a red sports coat the 42-year-old kept her head down as she braved the autumnal weather.
Speaking about Katie’s guilty plea to drink driving, driving without insurance and while banned, Michelle said she would support her pal.
She wrote: “As you all know, Katie was there for me when I needed her and I of course am there for her!
“Right now, please give us all space. And sorry to those requests to myself and my manager, we will not be talking about this or doing any interviews about it, unless Katie herself or her family wish me to.
“Our friendship over 21 years is built on trust.
“At this point I just reiterate what her family have already said and will support all in private.
“To anyone else out there who needs help – as for it and you’ll be surprised at the support that’s given to you. Asking is the hardest but first step.”
Michelle’s response comes after a source close to her said she had begged Katie to get help after noticing “something wasn’t right.”
The source had told The Sun: “Michelle’s desperately worried about Katie and wants her to get help.
“Katie saved her life now she wants to repay the favour. She saw Katie last week and knew something wasn’t right – and today’s news only confirms her fears.”
And they added: “Michelle has known Katie a long time and has begged her to go back to rehab to kick her demons for good.”
Speaking about seeking help herself Michelle explained recently: “It’s the first step and its the hardest step to admit that you have a problem. Everyone’s got a different story, but ultimately the end seems the same.”
“I became very very ill and about five years ago it got a hold of me, but I was happy in my addiction. But it got a hold of me really badly about a year and a half ago. I was so il, I had lost so much weight, my skin was translucent, my belly was very swollen and very hard.
“I was sick to drink more. I would make myself sick to drink more. I’d be happy when I was sick because I could drink more. It got so out of control that it controlled everything that I did,” she added.
Speaking about her life now, Michelle said: “Every day I’ve got a programme, so when I went into The Priory I had 28 days in the recovery centre and it was like a university course, all blended into 28 days.
“It was really hard hitting, really full on. It arms you with the tools and the knowledge about addiction, about where it originates from, how one can become an addict and what to do to stop it happening again.
“And then when you’re on the outside world, it’s got to be my journey. I’ve got to fight for survival every single day and by doing that I do the programme, which means my meetings, I pray to my higher power,” she added.
Michelle went on to praise Loose Women star Denise Welch and said: “Our Denise has been there through it all, she was one of the first who actually text me when I was in The Priory and she sent me so many motivational sober quotes about recovery and that helps me.”
Katie will be sentenced on December 15.
