Peter Andre and Emily MacDonagh first met in 2010 when the singer was treated in hospital by her dad, and more than a decade later, they’re still very much in love
Peter Andre and Emily MacDonagh have one of the most romantic – and solid – celebrity relationships, and their fairytale relationship began more than a decade ago.
Back in November 2010, the Mysterious Girl hitmaker was struck down with a mystery illness while on tour in Taunton, and was admitted to Musgrove Park Hospital with agonising stomach pains.
He was treated by Emily’s dad, urology consultant Dr Ruaraidh MacDonagh, who diagnosed Peter with a septic kidney stone, and rushed him into surgery.
The singer and the doctor, who he called Dr Ru, became friends, and Peter treated the health professional and his family – wife Rebecca and daughter Emily, then 21 – with tickets to his next gig as a thank you for saving his life.
It was then that the Australian singer began to try and woo young medical student Emily, as he gave her a signed tour programme after she attended the free concert, which read: “Dear Emily. You are gorgeous. Love, Pete.”
Emily later confessed she was blown away by Peter’s declaration of love, and over the next two years, they tentatively began to get to know one another.
Peter, Emily and her father then jetted off to Zanzibar on a charitable trip, and it was then that the singer knew he had met ‘The One’.
“After that trip I had feelings for her like I couldn’t believe… The moment I thought, ‘Oh my God this is The One’, in my heart, was in Zanzibar in 2012,” he sweetly recalled.
Gentleman Pete asked Emily’s dad for permission to date her, but it didn’t take long for him to agree, and the university student described her attraction to the singer as ‘instant’.
The new couple went public with their romance at the star-studded premiere of Magic Mike in July 2012, and she was quick to dispel any speculation about their ‘irrelevant’ age gap.
“I act a few years older and he acts a few years younger so we meet in the middle,” she joked.
Emily gave birth to the couple’s first child, daughter Amelia, in January 2014, and just days before she welcomed their baby girl, Peter got down on one knee and proposed to her in their daughter’s nursery.
The besotted couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Mamhead House in Exeter in July 2015, with Peter describing the day as one of the best moments of his life.
“I couldn’t have wished for a better day. I’ve married the love of my life and I couldn’t be happier,” he gushed.
Just one year later, they welcomed their second child, son Theo, in November 2016, and their family – along with Peter’s older kids Junior and Princess, from his marriage to Katie Price, was complete.
Peter is full of praise for his NHS doctor wife Emily, and is respectful of her decision to try and stay out of the limelight, as well as keeping their children’s identities off social media.
He told Closer magazine: “There are some parents that don’t want to do it and you’ve got to respect that as well. Emily’s one of those parents that doesn’t want it so I’ve got to respect that.”
While she was hard at work during the Covid-19 pandemic, the singer paid tribute to his wife, as he said he wished she was safe at home with him instead.
“As a husband and as a father, I’d love her to be here so I can protect her. But at the same time, what she’s doing and what all the NHS workers are doing is huge. And I’m so proud,” he shared.
He also joked that homeschooling the kids while the schools were closed had a knock-on effect on his and Emily’s sex life.
“If you could see the madness in this house the last thing you’d want to think about is having more children,” he told The Sun.
The mum-of-two, who has also taken on the role of stepmum to Junior and Princess, said she’s not bothered about the 16-year age gap between her and Peter, as she said her husband still ‘looks great’ despite being in his forties.
“He’s in his forties and he looks great. He still comes home to me and gives me cuddles,” Emily told OK!
Last year, Peter spoke about trying to make time for romance with Emily, and confessed date nights have ground to a halt in recent months, especially as the couple feel guilty for being away from the kids.
“It looks like an impossibility at the moment! We went away for her birthday for a night and, literally, we felt guilty. I’m not kidding!” he told Made by Mammas: The Podcast.
Despite not getting enough quality time together, Peter is still in awe of his gorgeous wife, and regularly posts pictures of Emily on social media.
“You look unreal,” he wrote alongside a snap of her getting ready for the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain awards, and recently called her ‘Miss World’ in a gushing tribute to his stunning wife.
