Halsey has called it quits when it comes to talking to the press after feeling “deliberately disrespected” in a recent interview.
The new mum, who goes by she/they pronouns, hit out at Allure magazine for an article that was run following an interview with the singer.
The 26-year-old – who welcomed their first child, Ender, to the world on July 14 – made it very clear that she will not be conducting any more interviews in the near future because of the bad experience.
In the since-deleted tweets, Halsey called out the publication for mis-gendering them throughout the article and said: “Hey @Allure_magazine. First your writer made a focal point in my cover story my pronouns and you guys deliberately disrespected them by not using them in the article.
“Then your admin b***ardised a quote where I discuss the privilege of being the white child of a black parent + Intentionally used a portion that was the antithesis of the point I was trying to make.”
The rant came after the artist had specifically told the reporter that they “hate doing press because I get exploited and misquoted.”
They pointed out the irony in the errors and said it was an “intimate admission” to share in the first place.
They concluded their message by writing: “Do f***ing better…?” later adding, “#NoMorePress goodbye.”
Fans of the singer were also quick to point out the error to Allure who only used female pronouns, leading to the publication writing a public apology.
In a tweet on July 14, the magazine put: “We’ve heard your feedback and you’re absolutely right: we messed up. We are adjusting our cover story with Halsey to use both ‘she’ and ‘they’ pronouns.”
The singer originally changed their pronouns to she/they in March.
On their Instagram Story at the time, they put: “For those asking RE: my updated Instagram bio, I am happy with either pronouns.
“The inclusion of ‘they,’ in addition to ‘she,’ feels most authentic to me. If you know me at all you know what it means to me to express this outwardly. Thanks for being the best.”
They publicly announced the birth of their first child on Tuesday.
The singer, whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, welcomed baby Ender into the world with partner Alev Aydin.
She announced the news on Instagram with a beautiful black and white image of the couple and the newborn.
They wrote: “Gratitude. For the most “rare” and euphoric birth. Powered by love. Ender Ridley Aydin 7/14/2021.”
Fans and friends, including Demi Lovato sent the happy family congratulations messages.
