Charlotte Crosby slams Channel 5 show ‘dissecting her plastic face’

Charlotte Crosby has lashed out at Channel 5 after they aired a show about the history of her plastic surgery on Thursday evening.

The MTV personality, 31, slammed the documentary – named Celebrities – What Happened To Your Face – Charlotte Crosby – for “dissecting” her appearance and blasted TV bosses for dedicating an hour to commenting on her looks, despite her agent telling them how “immoral and insensitive it was”.

Taking to Instagram to share a statement, on Friday, Charlotte blasted Channel 5 and production company Crackit for not considering her mental wellbeing by airing the one-off show and told of her disbelief that the episode was shown in 2021.

The Geordie Shore name typed: “I cannot quite believe I am saying this but here goes. Last night, Channel 5 & Crackit Productions put out a one-hour documentary called ‘Celebrities – What Happened To Your Face – Charlotte Crosby.

“In 2021, a main UK channel and production company believe it would be a good use of airtime, to dissect my physical appearance.

“I have seen how many of you saw it, switched off and complained – many not even ‘fans’ of me, just good people who know right from wrong. Thank you for that, and for your messages of love and support.”

Charlotte went on to acknowledge that she chose to be a celebrity by starring on reality TV but that she has had a “public battle” with her image which the TV show did not help.

She went on: “I am aware I have put myself and my face in the public eye. TV and broadcasting had given me and my family a life we could never have dreamed of. I enjoy it, am enormously grateful for it and many of my respected closest friends work within the industry.

“I have had a public battle with my appearance, and have had to go through personal trauma & issues of self-confidence in the spot-light. I like to think I’m an honest, balanced person – I get it, I understand the interest.

“One quick Google or look at my Instagram page, you’ll see how intensely I’ve been targeted by trolls and how I’ve learnt to ignore the hate, focus on the positives and work on loving myself again. It’s a process, it’s taken time, compassion, personal and professional support.”

Lashing out at the show for being insensitive and harsh on her looks and the surgeries and tweaks she has decided to have since finding fame, she continued: “At a time when the broadcast & media world were backing a policy of ‘be kind’, Channel 5 and Crackit decided to commission this one hour special on ‘rubber lip Charlotte’ (their words not mine).

“Their ‘experts’ dissected my ‘plastic face’ with disgust, discussing my fluctuating weight (with images), and then decided to flash up the worst troll comments from the past 5-6 years.

“I want to say here for context. When this was commissioned last March 2020, my agent found out about it and was appalled.

“She very clearly outlined to Crackit Productions not just how immoral and insensitive it was but how detrimental this would be to my mental health. They ignored her, despite repeated correspondence, and ran with it regardless.

“We only found out this week when it was in the TV listings that it was still going ahead – unbelievable.”

Sharing how she wants the production company and channel to take responsibility, she added: “Dealing with trolls is one thing, you ignore, you block. BUT where are we as a society, when the trolls are in the mainstream TV channels?

Charlotte revealed her agent asked the show to not go ahead as it was “insensitive”

“Will, they not take responsibility for my dip in mental health and my plummeted self-esteem? Do they take responsibility for the resulting press from the show, again discussing how ‘shocking’ my face is.”

Charlotte continued: “Channel 5 have a list of mental health helplines on their website – is this for viewers or the subjects of their poor choice in programming like me?

“Broadcasters are so keen to do psych tests for shows, yet at the same time give space to programmes which destroy the mental health of its subjects.

“That hour could have been used to host a mental health documentary. That hour could have educated the public in the many issues & good causes which need publicity.

“That hour didn’t need to go after a 31-year-old woman for her appearance, choices and ”rubber lips.'”

She then asked: “When is enough enough? Just because we’re in the public eye, doesn’t mean we aren’t human. Fortunately, I’m strong enough to deal with that but many aren’t!”

The Mirror has contacted a rep for Channel 5 and Crackit productions for comment.

On last night’s show Dr Sabrina Shah-Desai discussed Charlotte’s looks and how the reality star – who has always been open about being a fan of going under the knife and trying out fillers in a bid to enhance her looks – is at risk of going too far.

Dr Sabrina said: “She’s getting to visible signs of having fillers. Good jobs are not visible, bad jobs are extremely visible.”

As she and other experts looked at photos of the Newcastle native, she continued: “You can see her lips are too full, the apple of her cheek is too big, almost like a golf ball. That’s looking slightly unreal.”

Suggesting that Charlotte should reverse some of the procedures she has had, she later added: “She’s very young, her skin will bounce back if she just dissolved some of the bad work.

“Nobody’s willing to tell them they’ve gone too far, the practitioner isn’t telling them, they’ve got a circle of friends who think it’s acceptable and very quickly go into this ‘filler fatigue’, this face that quite obviously looks not beautiful anymore, just very plastic.”
