Amanda Holden in tears as she honours nurses who cared for her after losing son

Amanda Holden became tearful while presenting Heart Radio on Wednesday morning as she paid tribute to the nurses who cared for her after she lost her son Theo.

The TV presenter – who shares daughters Lexi and Hollie with husband Chris Hughes – was left heartbroken in 2011 when her little boy tragically died in the womb.

When she was seven months pregnant Amanda noticed that her baby had stopped kicking with a scan confirming her worst fear that the child’s heart had stopped.

Too upset to give birth, Amanda opted for a caesarean at West Minister University Hospital to deliver her stillborn child.

Amanda has remained close pals with the on duty midwives– Jackie Nash, Pippa Nightingale and Natalie Carter – who helped her deal with the horrendous loss.

Speaking out on Nurses Day 2021, Amanda praised the NHS staff who helped her at her lowest moment.

Speaking to listeners of her Heart Breakfast Show with Jamie Theakston Amanda began: “I personally would love to thank the nurses…

“I know I talk about this a lot. And I never know whether I talk too much about it.

“But obviously, when we lost our son Theo to a still birth the hospital where I was looked after was unbelievable.

Naming the nurses who helped her, Amanda went on: “Jacki Nash got me through so much, Pippa Nightingale and Natalie Carter.

“And when I came out of a coma there was a nurse – who I never knew the name of – who brushed my tangled, matted hair from spending so much time lying down – who fed me, washed me and put me in a dressing gown so that when my family came to see me they wouldn’t be scared of me looking like Stig of the Dump.

“So whoever that was iI don’t know who u are i will be forever grateful,” said Amanda.

The TV presenter set up charity Theo’s hope after the tragedy to provide special bereavement counsellors at all UK maternity units.

“Fewer than half of maternity centres have midwives trained to help bereaved parents. We need to change that,” said Amanda.

“My three amazing women got us through the worst time in our family’s life. Everyone deserves that level of support.”
