Alex Beresford likes tweet about karma after replacing Piers Morgan on GMB

Alex Beresford hit the like button under a tweet about good karma on Friday.

The weatherman, 40, took up the main hosting spot on Good Morning Britain this week – which was previously held by Piers, 55, before he sensationally quit amid thousands of Ofcom complaints being lodged about his constant hounding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

And shortly after the weekday show wrapped at the end of the week, Alex decided to share his appreciation for a cheeky tweet penned by Maya Jama on the micro-blogging platform.

Father-of-one Alex liked the tweet, typed by radio and TV host Maya, that read: “Good things come when you’re not a p***k.”

Earlier this month, Alex won the respect of several viewers tuning into GMB after he condemned Piers Morgan for relentlessly targeting the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

In unexpected scenes, Piers stormed off the set of the ITV news programme after Alex called his comments about Meghan “diabolical”.

Piers later returned to the set, but the same day it was reported that broadcasting watchdog Ofcom received more than 41,000 complaints about Piers’ conduct when reporting on the Duchess of Sussex’s and Harry’s historical interview with American talk show icon Oprah Winfrey.

The drama continued with ITV announcing, later that evening, that Piers was no longer going to front the popular series with immediate effect.

Bolshy Piers reportedly stepped down from his hosting position on GMB after he refused to apologise for “disbelieving Meghan’s claims” that the former Suits star made in the interview.

In a statement shared after Piers’ departure, Alex admitted he hadn’t wanted his co-star to quit – he just wanted him to listen.

In a post on Twitter, he wrote: “There is so much that could be said. Piers’ departure sincerely wasn’t the conclusion I was hoping for.

Alex hit the heart button below the message hours after he hosted GMB

“Over the last few years, Piers and I have had a lively, cheeky on-air relationship. We both wanted to be on the show Tuesday morning, and from our very public conversations on Twitter, we both knew how strongly our opinions differed on the treatment of Harry and Meghan pre and post the interview that has split the world.

“I hoped we could reach a place of understanding. It’s sad that we weren’t able to get there, but challenging his opinion was not an outrage. On this occasion, we have to agree to disagree.

“I didn’t want him to quit, but I did want him to listen.

“Personally, Piers has always supported my growth. He’s given me advice on several occasions and for that I am grateful. I wish him well!”

ITV have yet to announce a full-time replacement for Piers.

Ben Shephard has been standing in for him temporarily while Adil Ray has also been stepping in to help with hosting duties.

After Alex’s stint in the main chair on Friday he’s become the bookies’ favourite to take on the role.

Coral bookmakers confirmed odds were slashed on Alex becoming a permanent presenter and Piers’ replacement, going from odds of 8-1 to 2-1.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Alex Beresford stepped into the presenter role this morning on GMB and on the back of that his odds have been slashed to get the gig on a permanent basis.

“GMB are clearly taking their time to announce Piers Morgan’s replacement and after he got his chance to shine today, Beresford must now be among the shortlist.”
